as some of you may already be aware, I tend to be a bit of a "troll" on here sometimes. However, in spite of that, I am being completely honest and serious when I say the following statement. Most players are better than toews in his prime. He is probably one of the most over rated players of all time. Toews had no business being in the nhls top 100 players of all time. And he certainly should not have been any where near that NHL legends special with Lemieux, Gretzky, Orr, and Crosby.
Jonathan Toews Career Accomplishments:
- 2010 Stanley Cup Champion (29 Points in 22 Games, Conn Smythe)
- 2013 Stanley Cup Champion
- 2015 Stanley Cup Champion (21 Points in 23 Games)
- 2010 Olympic Gold (8 Points, Key Goal in Gold Medal Game, Led Team in Scoring)
- 2014 Olympic Gold (Key Goal in Gold Medal Game, played a key shut-down role the whole tournament)
- 2013 Selke Trophy
- Etc, etc.....
I agree that Toews is in a tier below Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, and Crosby, but I don't agree that he's overrated or that most players are better than him in his prime. Toews is a big game player that has helped lead his team to these Championships. Similar to other great players who have won, he played on great teams. For the media to compare Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner at this early stage of their careers to Toews and Kane is just a slap in the face to both these hall of fame players and Stanley Cup Champions.
