Leddy for Drouin

Created by: eddyed24
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 22, 2019
Published: Aug. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Habs need a lefthanded defenseman and NYI needs a top 6 winger. Both carries the same cap hit, but Drouin has 1 more year.

Juulsen starts in Laval since he didn't play for a long time because of his eye injury but then stays a regular on the third pair with Mete. Juulsen and stay at home and Mete is a good skater and maybe playing on the third line would take some pressure out of him and he would have favorable matchups.
Trades
MTL
  1. Leddy, Nick
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
A good skater, puck mover defenseman who can support the attack and might need a change of scenary. Younger defenseman and pushing him out and he's the one who could be sacrifice for a top 6 winger. In Mtl he would be playing on the first pair with Weber and I think they would make a good pair. Leddy supports the offense while Weber is more a stay at home guy. Leddy is more of a passer, while Weber got one of the hardest shot in the league. Since Drouin got more value than Leddy right now, NYI also accept to send a 2nd round pick.
NYI
  1. Drouin, Jonathan
Additional Details:
Excellent puckhandler, but he's not the hardest one for the backcheck. Maybe playing under Trotz who is a top 5 coach to me, would help him on his defense game. He's more of a passer than a scorer so I could see him on the second line with Nelson and Bailey or Eberle.

No thank you i know everyone wants to trade drouin but he has unlocked potential it isn't worth trading him for less than what he could be worth

Montreal doesn’t need another lhd. They sign chiarot so forget about leddy or ghost. Kulak was very good last year after Christmas and mete will likely pursue is progression i don’t see the point in moving for a lhd unless its a all star caliber. Montreal was 12/31 on goal allowed last year not bad at all

i'd rather just sign Ben Hutton to a 1.75m deal for 2 years and play

Kulak-Weber
Chariot-Petry
Hutton-Juulsen
Reilly

if we're in a playoff position come Feburary then they bring Mete up from the AHL to play top LD after playing as #1 d in laval all year .

Mete-Weber
Kulak -Petry
Chariot-Juulsen
Hutton

gives us enough size and depth for a playoff run whether going to Laval unlocks Mete's goal scoring ability or not he'll benefit from the time with coach Bouchard
Hutton has the potential to play a similar role as Chariot becoming more then just a shot blocker continuing to develop his physical game on the forecheck not just defending .
these guys will be key for a playoff run as they'll help create room for smaller forwards like Domi and Gallagher with less wear and tear then they'd usually absorb,

Mete could easily have 10 goal last year he add premium opportunities right in the slut. I think luck wasn’t on is size (goal refused) and i might been a little nervous since nothing seem to go in, but this is a prediction he will score at least 8 this years.

Unless he'S played with …...the right guys. Look who Vegas plays with Pacioretty : Statsny (described by forecaster as ''Solidly built, he usually plays bigger than his 6-0 frame…) and Stone ( 6'4'', 220 lbs).

Drouin needs a player strong on the boards that can retrieve the puck for him. Then he can do magic. In our current line-up, the 2 that could play this role are Armia and Gallagher. I would try Drouin - Domi - Armia until we acquire a better winger

In a line like : Drouin - Domi - Stone : Drouin could get 80 points/year

He’s an enigma. He extremely talented and going to put up numbers but people will still hate him for little things similar to Kessel.

Lots of players are late bloomers. Look at Wheeler, Mackinnon, both Sedin twins, etc

I like the idea of the trade and MTL seems to be a good fit for the Isles to move Leddy, they need a LHD (Chiarot is NOT the answer lol) and have forwards to move. But, regardless of you good you think Drouin CAN be, I don't see the Isles giving up a 2nd rounder, in addition to Leddy, if they are taking on an additional year of CAP hit. Leddy for Drouin 1-for-1, with the extra year of CAP making up the difference in perceived value, or, it MTL requires a pick to make it work, nothing more than a 3rd rounder should go.

I still wouldnt consider that his "breakout" season. After that he never scored over 53 points until 2017-2018. I'm not saying Drouin will make it to Mackinnon level, but saying Drouin "is what he is" is just ignorant. I think Drouin has more to give

So looking at a players track record on multiple teams over 5 years is ignorant, but pointing out a few random players that saw spikes in production at different points of their career and that you have a feeling "deep down" isnt?

Look at any players first 5 years in the league. Most of the time there is an upwards trend in production after that. He's only 24, how can you say he won't get any better?
