Fair value but jets may want just a small addition nothin major! as mentioned cams age means we got maybe 3 years of prime/great hockey left (if all goes well). Now moving teams can hurt players and we’ve seen players struggle. And players like Pavelski May struggle on a brand new team at mid thirties who’ve been in 1 system their entire strong career; similar to pavs Cam, like pavelski could do the same if all doesn’t transition well as he’s been with 1 systems and although both great players change may not work, now they’re not the same person but players who’ve had success with 1 team. I think cam potentially reducing to 40-50 points is why they may want a addition

I think Winnipeg would want some futures included there, at least a 2nd round pick and prospect.

This is not a good deal for the jets. Atkinson, like mentioned, is old and Laine is a potential superstar...so I think it's a hard pass for the jets

But still very raw, hes not good at anything besides scoring, and even then hes extremely inconsistent

"extremely inconsistent" is a stretch. Last year for sure, but the two prior years he was consistent and scary. the guy's 21 and defensive hockey can be taught. Most players come out as defensive liabilities when they are 18 and learn the game

Its not just defense its everything really, he doesnt really drive play hes not the fastest skater and he loses motivation when things dont go his way

partially true, but he's 21. Im a jets fan and ticket holder and there are stretches when he is dominant on the boards and everything seems to go in. He started becoming a little more physical as well. To be honest he scares me a little when it comes to his contract and what he could be.

he has really aged...he looks like he is 17 now instead of 12....rumor has it that for the playoffs he painted on a sharpie beard.

Love both players but age is definitely a factor and the fact that Laine is not even close to his ceiling yet also weighs heavy on the Jets.

Good example though!

Huge Jets fan here, wish I could make it to more games but sadly I am not local but I catch most of the games. I totally agree and if you watch his progress from last season you would see that when he was not scoring he worked on other areas of his game and he was miles better than the previous year in the other areas. Obviously there is still room for improvement on the defensive side but you can teach that. What you can't teach and what people forget most of the time is that he is also an excellent passer and a pure goal scorer, he knows they will come as long as he is doing the right things.

From a contract point of view it scares me as well with what he can demand on his second contract because if he refines the other aspects of his game, he will be in line for a huge pay day.

from my group chats and word around the city a lot of fans want a long term deal 6-8 for 8.5-9.5 AAV. Seems like a lot now but wont be when the new TV deal kicks in.
There is also a lot of talk of a bridge deal, 2 years at around 6-7. There is also some angry brewing with his recent comments and some fans wanna move on.
I fall somewhere in the middle. I want him to develop into a decent two way winger and score 40-60 in a jets uniform for the next 10 years, but I also see his value as a trade chip and think the jets might be better off moving him for the best package available

I wouldnt mind either option if he agrees to a fair contract or they get an amazing package
