You're saying that, but how many of those players were signed recently?
I'll throw Gallagher's name out there as an example (although I'd take Mitch over him), but his contract is nearly done and signed awhile ago. Gally at 3.~ is highway robbery, but it is difficult to compare that contract to whatever Marner will sign.

A more fair comparison for your argument might be Draisaitl at 8.5aav for example.

If Marner isn't worth 11m to the Leafs, why would he be worth 11m to the Flyers? There is this illusion on this site that Leafs offer to Marner is substantially less than what other teams are willing to pay him.
Marner can sign with any team.... The trade. Like Konecky but the Leaf would need a Dman that is truly NHL ready and good. I'd say Sanheim not Myers than it could be a deal, which the Flyers don't probably do unless they Marner signs at about 10m.

I don't mind it at all. But I am also very high on Myers. I think he's going to be a terrific player very soon. I felt he was the best at the WJ in his last go around there. I think something else would need to happen to balance the contracts but I've said in the past, for a trade with Philly Myers is my target.

Cool a bunch of uber fans of different teams don't like me because I don't want to give away top end players for very little because it would be convenient for the team you are a fan of. I couldn't possibly tell you how much this bothers me.......because I don't care at all.

First half I'd say is BS. The second half of your statement I'd agree with but in all of those cases its due to players having very undervalued contracts. For instance, who wouldn't rather have McKinnon at his contract over Marner? But since we can't just change rosters as we can on video games, you have to deal with the business side of things. In this case, I've been firm that Ferris is a clown and has over reached in a big way. Now speculation and fan angst has blown all of this way out of proportion and a circus has ensued.

There is also this illusion in your head that because Toronto doesn't want to go over 10.5 that atomically means other teams aren't willing to go over it. I'm pretty sure Panarin signed for 11.5M.

The first half is 100% accurate. This kid put up 2 60pts seasons before this and now we're suppose to hand him over a top end contract because JT made him look good for a year .... gtfo

1) Yes Tavares obviously helped Marner to a career year
2) Marner also helped Tavares to a career year
3) Young players are going to get paid if they are top contributors. Its just the way the market is moving.
4) I agree Marner shouldn't get 11 million, I am hoping for a 6 year deal around 9.5 million
5) Everyone on here either doesn't know or doesn't remember that the year before last Marner played at an above a point a game pace for the second half of the season once he was put on Kadri's line with Marleau.

Marner isn't overrated, his agent is a clown who is overreaching and this whole thing is getting way too much attention.

I just read something on another thread where Friedman reported that Mitch has said no to an 11M/8yr offer from the leafs. Who knows if that's true.. but if it is? Lol. Fire him and his ego into the sun and make a trade.. or sit him for the year and revisit this next year when he comes back to earth.

Marners only way out is to sign an OS and the leafs let him go for 4 firsts, or they match and get him for under 10.55M... neither of which are coming. Either way, I don't see the leafs losing this one. I imagine they'll take the kid gloves off soon, regardless of how sensitive his camp can get about things.. and if he's still sitting g on his high horse then he'll get traded.
