Players just don't "retire to LTIR." Leafs or no team wants to take the chance of Ladd become medically fit and off LTIR in the future . Sure he looks like he is on LTIR this season but three years more to go.

Pfffft ummm dude it’s how NHL teams get outta contracts like Horton, Pronger, Frazen, Zetterberg, Clarkson, Callahan, prob will see it with Seabrook, Eaves, Parise, Suter etc

Ladd is injured?

Look it up butter cup he’s been injured since March 2019, torn ACL and at his age not easy to come back plus past injury history

Sorry you're incorrect. Pronger, Horton, Clarkson didn't fake career ending injuries to help their team with the cap. I don't know enough about some of the others, but insurance companies, the league and other teams don't allow such blatant circumvention of the cap.

Get use to it.

So, just curious, if Ladd is an LTIR candidate (which recent reports suggest he isn’t, by the way) why wouldn’t the Isles just LTIR him and use that additional CAP space, if needed themselves, Instead of trading Mayfield, on of their best D’s on an insanely team friendly deal to offload Ladd for essentially crap?

FYI buddy, recent reports have Ladd already skating with a return around December... assuming no setbacks of course. Point is, he’s not a lock for LTIR this year, let alone the last three years of his deal.

CBA has lots of rules for LTIR, most will be under review for the next CBA, however until then trading for players on LTIR is not against the rules. Many players are willing to be talked into remaining on LTIR instead of hitting their respective teams with Cap Recapture Penalties like what Lou did recently.

Totally right! Which is why I included he “re-injured his ACL” it’s a hypothetical trade my friend smile

Sorry you are using totally meaningless LTIR to to try to justify your crappy post and trade.... Of course I knew that Ladd had torn ACL. Hockey fans knew this, which is why I figured you didn't Point is no team wants to take a chance of Ladd being deemed medical fit sometime in the next four years. Now hockey fans know the potential cap benefit of Clarkson being traded to the Leafs, do you?

For a “crappy post” you’ve spent lots of time and effort replying? Must be cause you secretly wish you’d thought of it yourself wink

Who convinced Clarkson to retire ? The powers you have over Ladd is amazing? You convinced Ladd on to go on permanent LTIR. Sure. Sorry , you couldn't outsmart a three year old. A three year old might be impressed by your fibs, but no one else is.
Sorry, you have to justify a lousy post by exaggerating your mystical powers having players retiring. The minimum age of this site is 16 years. Come back in 10 years.

Ummmm Clarkson got injured over and over again until Columbus asked him to call it a career and he mutually agreed. Great article about him in the Athletic. It’s okay you don’t understand it’s complicated stuff amigo. but I’m happy to teach you awesome face
