I'm not even saying Marner is worth $11M+, but he's worth at least as much as Tavares. So, if Tavares is worth $11M so is Marner.

I don't like using comparables ... just because one player gets overpaid doesn't mean other players of the same level need to be overpaid.

How is he not a #1 though? I think he's very good defensively and decent offensively. But it is supposed to be something people will disagree with, so that's fine.

i mean he is of course but i think marner is better and more reliable. marner has missed like 5 career games? matthews has missed 34.

So? That doesn't mean Marner is a better player or even as good a player as Matthews?

You just do ... Marner is probably worth 10M or less.

He's def. top 10. But, now that Panarin is gone, I think his offensive production will drop. But, just imagine his numbers on a #1 PP unit of TOR, TBL, or BOS. He'd probably be north of 70 points. Werenski is the overrated one. Jones is an awesome 2-way D.

Would you consider Werenski a #1 d-man? I would, but it sounds like you wouldn't. Jones is without-a-doubt top 10 in my opinion, and i'd put him top 5.

Comparables can work, but RFA contracts are better comparables. If Toronto offered 10M for Tavares they weren't getting him.

I get that, but i'd say he's definitely top 10. Arguably top 5, and for me, i'd put him top 5. Only d-men i'd put ahead of Jones would be Hedman, Burns, and EK65.

I like the way playoff teams are currently seeded. If you want to win the Cup you have to go through the best anyways, and the current system does reinforce rivalries.

Think I would add Josi Rielly Trouba and Gio and Carlson to that list for sure some other players are maybes to be ahead of him. I would rate jones somewhere around dumba. To me he is probably around 10, no lower than 15.

matthews contract was rfa and is a perfect comparable. same age. less points than marner. i dont understand how its not a good comp? he got overpaid. sucks. as the gm that overpaid him thats now marners comparable. its not like dubas can give matthews 11.6 and then look at what pasta and marchand make and tell marner well these guys produce similar soooooo heres your deal. thats not how it works.
