I agree strongly, but he is better than Harpur, and Sandin the best of the options will be in the minors for 1 more year. In 2 or 3 years he will be great.

Marincin - Schmaltz till Dermott comes back, then those three are circled thru 3rd Pair or Ceci is demoted if doesnt perform and Dermott goes into 1st Pair

This roster does not make the playoffs with the strengthening of the Atlantic. Heck, they are a single injury to Andersen away to be not even in the conversation for a WC spot.

They still have Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, Kerfoot, Kapanen, Johnsson, Dermott, Rielly, Muzzin and Barrie. They are great team with and without Marner. Hopefully Marner is there for a whole year, but if not, they are fine.

Sandin is not ready. Although he will get an opportunity.
Gravel is good and defensively better than both Marincin and Harpur but still a meh, but better than other mehs.
Kivihalme is a sleeper for that spot. Two-way Dman who can snipe it but is also smart in his own zone. There is questionmark about the transition from europe to NA tho. So I reserve my judgement.

Just the fact they are missing three regular Dmen from last year....Gardiner, Zaitsev and Hainsey....and injured Dermot makes four.....and only two NHL replacements Barrie and Harpur shows that the Leafs are very shaky footing if we are talking playoffs.
My guess is Marincin can be OK if given regular minutes and the Leafs are hoping for Harpur or Holl becoming NHL good, But all those hope thet Dermot returns and everything is OK is kind far fetched. Just as easily could be another Dman injury and where are the Leafs then?
Last season the Leafs were on a 120 point pace by December 1st. They finished with 100 points and made the playoffs by four points. Hardly a lock for the playoffs at all this season.

I can’t see Babs playing Bracco that high in the lineup but I would love it.

Sandin is going to be an almost point per game player next season in the ahl

100%, but he needs to learn that complexity in defensive game and transition game and putting up points outside powerplay. Thats why the 2nd year in AHL would help. Liljegren is absolutely ready thanks to 2nd year. He change his trajectory from like Subban type of rush offensive Dman to like prime Stralman type of two-way beast. He good!

People need to realize that Kerfoot is a significant downgrade on Kadri though. I get the Toronto media propaganda. But he's not the kind of player that will drive the play from the 3rd line.

Oh every 3C in this league is downgrade from Kadri, I know that, but with combination of him and two other good wingers in Johnsson and Kapanen they will form a great 3rd line. Being feisty, scoring, making plays.. everything. And Kerfy is good defensively too. Smart kid.

Actually I'm less concerned about the 3rd line and more concerned about the Dermott injury. Dermott was having a fantastic year until he got injured last season. Now with missing training camp and regular season games this will affect Dermott more than people think.

Can Dermott return to form by the end of the season? Hard to say but this injury hurt the Leafs more than people think.

I have the same thought. He was becoming a more defensive player near the end of the season and the playoffs. A defensive defencemen is what they need, and he looks like he could become that.
No matter what leafs are guaranteed at least a wildcard position

As Sammy pointed out, no worries here.

Box of Oreos - Tavares - 10,5M
Box of Oreos - Matthews - Nylander......in both cases box of oreos getting 25-35 Points
Johnsson - Kerfoot - Kapanen - that should be ran last year already with Kadri, i dare to bet thats one of most attracting 3rd Lines atm not talking looks here and bias aside

He'll start in 3rd Pair circling with Marincin and Schmaltz, they will be fine if we suppose Ceci can prosper from playing with Rielly and Muzzin - Barrie killing it on their own....

Thank God someone said it! I don't understand how everyone seems to think that he will be Rielly's partner as soon as he comes back. Maybe by the end of the season but its definitely a bigger concern than most are making it out to be.
