Trouba won't cost that much. RFA compensation is based over 5 years. If you offered him a 49/7yr contract. Divide 49 into 5, and that's where the 9.3 million comes from (and the 4 firsts). His AAV would only be 7 million though. That would give you an extra 5+ million in cap space for this mock.

The 5 years only comes into play if the contract is for over 5 years.

"For offer sheet purposes, AAV is determined by dividing the total compensation offered by the lesser of the length of the contract, or by 5"

I didn't see the 3 year contract, but that's not worth even offering him. He won't accept a 3 year deal, nor would the Bruins offer it. Any offer sheet for Trouba is going to be 7 years. Thanks for the heads up on that though. I didn't pay attention to the term of his mock.

It honestly would better for the bruins anyway. You're giving up 4 firsts regardless, and if you're giving up 4 years for him, you're banking on him growing into a #1 dman anyway. 7 years > 3 years, as you know. Plus you get the lower cap hit on him, and gives you more money for other assets.

The "best" part of this is that we have no choice but to offer him about what you said because big ol' dealer Don worked his magic on those Rinaldo and Stempniak deals. So glad he's making moves that make Chiarelli's seem intellectually sound.

Chiarelli traded Tyler Seguin and Taylor Hall for Eriksson, Larsson, Morrow, and Fraser. I'd still rather have Sweeney.
