Lets fix this hot garbage

Created by: TheChief
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 25, 2019
Published: Aug. 25, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Couple of more 90 point seasons for Marner alongside Tavares and short contract will bite TOR back hard as he has the grounds for demanding to become the highest paid player in the team by a good margin. Better sign him even relatively cheap since the salary cap is rising year by year and his demand will too if he keeps up being the leading scorer of the team.

Gardiner seems to love this team, although I'm not sure why. Perhaps he's in love with the thought of having constantly long summer breaks lmao. He takes a bit of a discount on a longer contract.

This would mean that Muzzin, Kapanen and Hyman has to be moved. Gardiner/Barrie can fill up the place Muzzin leaves, they can get the first they lost in loading Marleau away back by moving him. Kapanen is the easiest to replace from their RWs with Bracco. Kapanen and Hyman can bring up a decent prospect and a pick, or just a higher pick.

Gardiner loves the Leafs....because none of the other 30 NHL teams have signed him. The cap rise is very small. One player shouldn't expect to get all the increase.

My guess is he has postponed signing with any team because he waits for the Leafs offer. 5.3 x 5 is a very team friendly contract.

If you didn’t sign Marner to that ludicrous deal, you would have space to keep him. Why did you sign him to that cap any way?

I took a look at the stats. Kadri and Marner got put together on January 24th 2018 against the Avs. In the final 33 games of the regular season with either Marleau or JVR rotating on the left wing, Marner put up 36 points for a points per game avarage of 1.09. That would’ve put him on pace for 90 points in 82 games. He finished the season with only 70 points, however keep in mind he played the majority of his first 49 games on the fourth line. If you also include what he did in the post season, then it’s 45 points in 40 games for a 1.125 points per game average.

So while most Leaf fans suggest he’s worth 6 million at most and would be a fringe player without Tavares, it is obviously not true but 11 million for a 90 point winger?

Panarin's a 87 point player, and he gets $11,6M...

Matthews a 73 point player, and he gets $11,6M...

Marner at $11,3M being a 94 point player isn't that ludicrous at all, when you look at the comparables.

Yiu didn’t fix anything. You only made this team worse. Muzzin>Gardiner
Hyman>pick for the leafs
Kapanen>bracco

I think the only thing this team needs is an upgrade on ceci (who I think has some but little value). Ceci isn’t the right partner for Reilly and neither is Barrie. He needs more of a defensive presence. Ie larsson, demers, hamonic, etc. Also I don’t think bracco won’t get ice time on the leafs while babcock is coach.

By the hot garbage I meant the Marner situation. This clears it up.

Some changes needs to be done.

Not these changes though. Honestly, you only made this team worse in a year where they’re going for it
