edmonton is giving up the more productive/valuable player, as good as gallagher is why would they send rnh and a 3rd/2nd for him? its at best even if not that 3rd/2nd going back the other way.

Between the cap savings and Oilers positional issues, I think they say yes, but probably not such a high pick.

It would leave the Oil with enough cap space to get a 3-4 million dollar LW to play in the top 6. So if the Oil knew they could do that, I see it as strengthening the roster. For example, if Namestnikov was gotten as a dump from NYR, it would leave the Oil with a much more balanced forward group.

Namestnikov-McDavid-Gallagher
Neal-Draisaitl-Chiasson
Granlund-Marody/3C signing-Archibald
Khaira-Gagner-Kassian

This is funny..... Nugent Hopkins had almost 20 points more than Gallagher this year.

Classic case of a Canadiens fan thinking Gallagher is worth way more than he really is.

I’m more comfortable with a 1 for 1 but Gallagher is on a great contract for a 30+ goal scorer. A 1st line with him on it would be amazing.

Draisaitl-McDavid-Gallagher

Only issue is, Edmonton would have to find a 2C

You don't give up one of the top 4 players on the team for cap space

Yes, its a sad proposition, but for the Oil having their best true winger being either James Neal or Alex Chiasson at the moment, being able to move Drai to 2C, turn Nuge into 30 plus goal scorer and save over 2 mil to address the other wing probably makes this team better.

I love the Nuge, but this team was so screwed up over the Chiarelli era, it would take some bold and lucky moves to turn it around. This sort of trade might, or might not.

If Gallagher got another 30 plus goals and the Oil capitalized on the 2mil plus in space to improve the LW, then yes I think it is a good idea.

At best this is a lateral move for the Oilers so what's the point for them?

Now if this is Gallagher and one of Lehkonen or Armia
for RNH and a 3rd or 4th then it makes some sense for Edmonton.

Trade doesn't really work for either team. MTL trades their only top 6 right shot proven NHLer for a 2C who's best seasons have come behind superior offensive players than MTL has to offer. MTL would either need Domi to have a repeat of last season and stay at C, meaning KK or Danault plays wing or 4 C, which is a bit of a waste, along with Poehling, who will potentially be pushing for a C spot, being shoved aside. Suzuki would then be the default 1RW, unless Armia or 1 of the LW took the spot.
On the EDM side, with Draisaitl acting as 1LW, where he just had his best season, they don`t really have a replacement for the 2C spot if they move RNH. Maybe the extra cap space helps but they are in a very precarious place.

this is like us taking dubois who you desperately need at Center because there's no clear replacement and trading him for another RD

MTL has no need for Centers
Domi's win % wasnt great in his first years but neither is any Center's their first year but Domi did well even if all you notice is his win %

Danault finished 9th in draws 7th in faceoff wins coming off a career year

Kotakanemi faced issues with stamina due to playing almost 22 months straight starting as a 16 year old representing his country instead of taking time off to his season oversea's in Finland , WJC then the playoffs , Draft ,Rookie Camp , staying in MTL to train , Training Camp , Pre Seasons , then he learned at 18 he made the opening roster . Kotkanemi's a Beast and doesnt make excuses just shows up and now he's had his first summer off in 2 years i expect him to come back hyped up

Poehling made his career off being Team USA Bulk Faceoffs shutdown center whether it was playing behind Casey Middelstadt or jack Hughes on 2nd line he's been an impact player both offensively and possession wise . lets forget him stepping into the NHL and scoring a hat trick and the OT winner in the season ending game in Montreal on Saturday night vs a fully dressed TML roster , instead lets focus on the fact that for years he's been the guys coaches relied on to win Faceoffs for Team USA .

Suzuki coming off a Career year where he had a Mitch Marner like year coming up 2 points shy of Marners CHL scoring record in the post season and looking like he'll make the jump straight to the NHL like his training Partner Marner.Suzuki's more hungry then ever with a chip on his shoulder still about VGK GMs comments about Suzuki being a Project Player .

not to Forget Thompson's one of the NHL's more reliable 4th line Centers deffinately in the top 15/31 if not higher .
he's best used as a Winger to help rookies jump to Center at the NHL level but has many uses due to his size/skill and Leadership Qualities .

what we got in Finland and Sweden is about 2 years out from an NHL debut but that could change and 1/2 just landed on the TBL of their league with one of the Leagues best Centers infront of him.

We Desperatly need a true top 6 LW of note 25 or under preferably a Keller type complete player (MTL would love Keller he played wing for Poehling on team USA and Domi in ARZ)
We Desperatly need a RW ready today capable of playing top preferbly 25-30 like a Josh Anderson or Nino Neidereiter type that provide 20+ goals retualarly .
Tatar and Byron can only help us so long , we need to find youthful 20 goal scorer's with speed to helped transition long term to lead the youth .
