Chicago Blackhawks Season Preview

Created by: AlphaHockey65
Team: 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 26, 2019
Published: Aug. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Hawks added a plethora of D this offseason.
From Maata to De Haan, the Hawks D looks solidifed with a good set of prospects coming up as well.

Up front, Toews and Kane are still productive. DeBrincat looks to continue his dominating force and Strome looks to continue off of last season's success.
Perlini is the only RFA left to sign, I think he gets around $1.4 x 2.
Andrew Shaw will also provide solid depth scoring on the bottom six.

This may be a playoff team depending how well goaltending is and how well the new D becomes accustomed to the West.
The tandem between Crawford and Lehner will be an interesting one.

Any team with Brent Seabrook in the Top 4 is not a playoff team

Murphy and Seabrook are interchangable but if Maata picks up his game and De Haan remains reliable. They are a better team

I don't think he's good enough to make the roster right now but we'll see what he does in camp and preseason. He could be a pleasant surprise or a massive dissapointment

Lines are a bit of a mess here. Most glaring is Kane is not playing on the 2nd line as Cat - Strome - Kane is a nightmare for the Hawks defense.

Saad (Caggs, Kubalik, Nylander, Sikura) - Toews - Kane
Cat - Strome - Shaw/Saad (need defensive play)
Kubalik - Kampf - Perlini (Sikura, Nylander)
Caggs (Perlini) - Smith - Carpentar

Keith - Gus
De Haan - Murphy
Maatta - Seabs

Crow
Lehner

I agree with the Seabrook assessment. Suffice to say, I don't think the team is smart enough to sit a player making almost 7 per year. Also, a lot of focus has gone into the team "solidifying" the D. However, Maatta really cant skate and who knows how de Haan's recovery will turn out. Essentially, it doesn't feel like we got any true puck movers and we definitely didn't get any faster. I do like de Haan if he gets back to full health though.

Nylander really looked bad during the prospect camp, especially in the scrimmage. I know its a little early to judge (boy do I have a problem with Dach), but I do think Nylander doesn't fit well in the nhl. Every draft has a high pick that never pans out, and unfortunately he might be the one. The only tough thing is that for another asset added on, Stan might have been able to get William, since the Leafs need RHDs.

Lol, but we do now! His family friend is Anders Sorensen....ironically (not really) he's a coach in Rockford. I see Nylander spending the entire year in the AHL learning the system. Maybe gets called up if he's playing really well, but I just see too many others like Kurashev Kubalik maybe Sikura getting spots before him.

I thought Dach did good during prospect camp?

Dach did fine at camp, when he had the puck. In fact, as the third overall, anything less than “he did great” would have looked god awful on bowman. Where he showed a lot of flaws was off the puck. There were the few occasions where he stripped a puck or two, but other than that, he lacked a great deal of initiative and awareness. Furthermore, the guy can’t take face offs. He was actually 41% in the WHL. 41%!!!! It’s still super clear that Stan picked the wrong guy. He lacks so much drive and determination. Never mind that he can’t skate like the other top picks and for a guy who’s 6’4’’ he can’t use it, the guy is suppose to be a center. However, all evidence of the skills he has make it seem that he’ll only ever be a winger. No face off ability, lazy off the puck, and doesn’t use his size. So I don’t know what they want to use him for, but whatever it is, it’s not gonna be what they drafted him for.
