Larsson is average and Hall is a superstar. Why not wait to get more for Taylor Hall? He was the best Oiler last year.

Man oh man, what I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall for the discussions about this trade before it happened like with the Seguin trade. Or better yet, I think the NHL network should just keep camera's on Chiarelli at all times like in the road to the winter classic thingy. His silly thought process is MUST SEE TV!!!

I'll admit, at the time, I didn't think was as one sided as it is now. Oilers were looking for a semi-stud Dman, to. balance their lineup and got Larsson who seems to have regressed. Hall has got even better. So while I thought it New Jersey won the trade almost two years, I didn't think it would turn so poorly for the Oilers.

Same as Drouin. For a player only like by Ottawa management.

I actually think Ceci has potential to be a pretty good player, and he's underrated, but that trade would still be terrible lol ... Hall for Ceci.

Ceci is an abomination in his own end, what exactly makes you say that he's underrated?

This is way worse than the Subban/Weber one, this so one sided that I think: "how the f*** did this go through!" I'm dead serious. Yikes.

Who saw this one coming?!

At the time I did..

It was obvious the Oilers needed a defenseman, and honestly I think they should have used the Yakupov pick to get a legitimate 1-2 but they blew that one because management then and still now have no idea what the hell they're doing... They continually take the best player available, which is a good idea in most cases but not when you draft in the top 5 for decade and first overall for 5 years - when that happens you should start drafting for needs or trading the pick to fill needs..

Yea so adding Larson was an improvement, but I'm baffled as to how Edmonton is still in the cellar presently...

Sure, if you evaluate the trade based on where their respective teams are, but I think it's a lot closer than what many think.... Hall just clicked in New Jersey and Larson is still a good player - he just didn't improve the OIlers like Hall improved the Devils..

IMO, the Oilers could use a guy like Seabrook - a leader that knows how to win Cups, because players like that can really turn your team around because they know how to win and believe it or not it takes more than just talent to win.... Young teams need to be shown how to win, they need someone to lead them.

What??No its not even close. At least not at the current time. Larsson doesn't even hold Weber's jock strap right now.....Habs lost the Subban deal, that anyone would agree with but people need to dismiss this notion that Weber sucks or something. He's been very good for Montreal. Yeah he's probably going to be worse eventually but let it happen before assuming it already has. Larsson on the other hand is what exactly? Barely a top 4 dman. A defensive low scoring one to boot......

Hall for Larsson will go down as one of the worst trades in NHL history the way Hall is playing right now. Weber for Subban will simply be a bad trade for Montreal.

I'll be honest, I don't see Larsson play much so all I can go on is numbers, but has he really been that bad? Looking at his numbers vs his peers in EDM:

oiSV% - 2nd and only .02 behind leader
dZS% - 1st
TkAw - 2nd
GA/60 - 3rd
SH/TOI - 1st
Hits - 1st
Blks - 2nd

Again all I can go by is stats and the numbers point to him being one of the more reliable defensive players for EDM this season. I'd love to have him on the Bruins playing w/ Krug lol

No i think you misunderstood what i meant. Was not saying Larsson is a bad player. He's still a defensive minded top 4. That's nothing to sneeze at. I meant in relation to comparing him to Weber straight up as which of the two trades has been worse. (So far)

As of right now, Edmonton's trade is far worse than Montreal's. (Not to say Montreal still didn't lose their trade though obviously)

Well of course straight up Weber is the better player. But look at what MTL did. They locked themselves into an additional 8 years & nearly $64 million for a guy who maybe isn't even an upgrade over Subban. Prior to the Hall trade, Hall had played well, but had missed serious time with injuries. Looking at Hall and how things were going at the time of the trade...I don't think it was that bad. You also have to figure that w/ McDavid coming in they wanted to make him Captain and with Hall there it would have made things weird. There were other reports that Hall didn't really listen to management or coaches and did his own thing (no idea how true that is).

Honestly it could have just been that EDM wasn't the best place for Hall. I know it sounds weird and a lot of people overlook it, but some guys just don't fall into the ideal situation best for their development and growth. Who knows, maybe if Hall isn't trade he still giving EDM 20-25 goals and 30-40 assist ...but that's not the 39/54 player he currently is in with NJ.

Its an interesting discussion when you look at then and now.

I always wonder what would have happened if Seguin went to EDM #1 and Boston got Hall at #2
