I think insert Beauvillier for Ho Sang and the Jets think about it.

I can’t imagine the Jets doing that. Obviously this is an AGM by an Isles fan because you only addressed their needs.

The Jets need younger players on ELCs with their cap situation. Even with Laine gone they still have a handful of RFAs next year to sign. You’d have to give up one of your younger defensive prospects in place of Leddy to even peak the Jets interest.

did. not sure if i'd do it from the isles perspective anyways. laine has been a well below average nhl forward in every respect except his elite, elite shot so far. his value without the draft slot and flair should really be around 5-7 million. but obviously goals do count, even with half on the powerplay. this is all based on potential and barry trotz being able to turn him into a legit star and all-around player. even beauvillier is really young and a 20 goal scorer already who plays solid defense. very tough to evaluate a guy like laine

Jets would ask for Pulock/Dobson in any deal.

everyone is in cap trouble except the major rebuilders pretty much. the jets are gonna have a hard time finding an offer with young players on ELCs who can play right now while getting the same value back. remember, the team Laine goes to will have to give him a big contract as well. beauvillier is a really solid, young player in his cheap years who will give you 20 goals and solid defense and leddy is a top 4 on a 5.5 contract. firsts are the most valuable commodity in the nhl. a late 1st was pretty much all the jets got for trouba. this could even be a bad deal for the islanders, as trouba has been a really bad NHL player in every respect but goals. Analytically hes a replacement-level player with a golden shot. very tough to evaluate

no chance the isles even think about that. Pulock is a young, cheap #1 defenseman who just lead the best defense in hockey last year and Dobson has loads of potential to be a top pairing d-man in the near future. Laine is a below average forward with the 2nd best shot in the league. doesn't generate much offense and is putrid defensively and in transition

Well then there won't be a trade because we won't want anything else as a center piece

They got a younger but less offensively skilled defenseman in Pionk, plus the late first rounder to bridge the gap. A good hockey trade imo.

I agree with the other guy that they’d ask for one of those 2 players. Obviously the Jets aren’t going to give Laine up so willingly, even though the fact he is one dimensional is true he still holds value to the Jets. It’d be one of those situations where they’d sign him to a bridge instead of taking the best offer no matter how bad. I’m not saying your offer is bad, I just don’t see them giving up his goal production for those pieces.

Pulock or Dobson or no deal. It’s as simple as that. Jets can afford to wait. They’re not backed in to a corner like they were with trouba. Premium player you pay a premium price. Despite defensive shortcomings in his game he has made improvements that were noticeable over the last 20-30 games that while not scoring you could see the well rounded player in his game. So as previously mentioned. Pulock or Dobson or no deal.

that's fair, and since there is zero chance the isles entertain trading 1 of those 2 for Laine there would be nothing here if you were right. i guess we'll see what happens and if he actually gets traded. the whole trade and RFA market is waiting for a top RFA to sign, specifically Marner. he sets the high bar but he may not even sign before the season at all. really interesting situation to say the least
