Ducks What if they tank in 2019-2020

Created by: Boeser006Petey014
Team: 2020-21 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 26, 2019
Published: Aug. 27, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This was just an idea, but more importantly it was to showcase the the Ducks do have a decently bright future if they continue to rebuild and move on from pieces that clearly wont fit when their younger players are ready to contend. I do not know if the values are fair, and would love some feedback and what a trade revolving the players involved might look like.

  4. Wilde, Bode
  5. 2020 4th round pick (NYI)
  6. 2020 6th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
The Duck make this trade for the sole purpose of bolstering their future roster. Wahlstrom joins a young offensive group missing a big bodied offensive presence on the right wing to go along with Comtois on the left wing. They also bolster their defensive depth which might be an issue as some of their current defense exit their primes. In exchange for gaining two extremely talented prospects the Ducks also agree to take on the Ladd and Boychuck contracts. This works for the team because higher end players like Zegras and Raymond (this is a lineup based on the Ducks tanking and getting a top three pick in the 2020 draft) won't need contract until 3 years anyways. Plus this roster has so many ELC and cheaper contracts that the team is still left with 10+ million in cap space. The Ducks also give up a second because of the length of the Fowler deal in which the back half of the contract may pose problems for the Islanders.
NYI
  1. Fowler, Cam
  2. Rakell, Rickard ($1,000,000 retained)
  3. Sideroff, Deven
  4. Sprong, Daniel
  5. 2021 2nd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Rakell is still only 26 and has two more years on an extremely team friendly deal. He immediately provides valuable secondary scoring behind the likes of Barzal and Lee.
Fowler is only 27 and despite some recent injury plagued years on a better team he could quarterback a power-play and put up 30+ points.
Sprong is 22 and still has some upwards potential, with the right line mates he could have a 30-40 point season and provides cheap, young and fast secondary scoring over older options like Komerov.
Overall the Islanders don't get considerably older, and they also don't take on any cap, in fact for the next two years they will be save approximately 1.613 million a year. However, whats most important is that the Islanders add nearly 100 points combined with Rakell, Fowler and Sprong. and none of the players is older than 27. The other benefit of the trade for the Islanders is that they unload the Ladd contract in which they are paying him 5.5 million to be a healthy scratch. They also unload the last 2 years of Boychuck's contract. This is another cumbersome contract that might poses a challenge when they try to fit Barzal under the cap.

I personally think you're giving too much; maybe changing the 2nd to a 4th would even it out.

I agree with you that it feels like I may be giving up a lot in the deal. What made me give up the 2nd round pick was the Fowler contract. Under this trade the Ducks would be free of the Ladd and Boychuk contracts within 3 years and both also have a lower cap hit. The Fowler contract is for 6 years and has a higher cap hit as well. I get the feeling that the last 2-3 years of that contract could be pretty rough for the Islanders. Im also a big fan of Wilde. I would imagine that Fowler is a considerable upgrade to Boychuck for the next 2 years, hence why the Islanders would be intrigued. For the Ducks it would also free up cap space to be used elsewhere. Hope that kind of explains my rationale
hosh liked this.

I really like your thinking. As a Canucks fan, I don't follow the ducks a lot, but I really love Fowler (and Kase), and always thought that he was a really good defenseman, and never took his contract into picture. I think that you are definitely right, and It could become an "immovable contract" in the future. I still think a 2nd is too much because it could be a very early 2nd. A 3rd is more suitable.

Great! 2 cap dumps and a couple of mystery boxes for a 2x 30 goal scorer and a top 4 D-man. Get real!

P.S. The Ritchie deal makes no sense. You're just moving him to move him.

Agreed, but it's more like remove Ladd + Boychuk and add a couple NYI 1st round picks. The value is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy off.

Ladd and Boychuk are dumps. We don't want them! We're looking to compete again within the next 2 years. You're going to have to pay to dump those deals. Fowler is a considerable upgrade on Boychuk and yet you have NYI not paying for that.

Adding Rakell is a complete joke. He alone is worth Wahlstrom+. Fowler is worth more than the rest of the package. I don't even know where to begin. We'll take Ladd's awful contract of your hands for Wahlstrom/2019 1st. Boychuk's for 2 x 2nd/Wilde + 2nd. Can send you back Sideroff in either deal. No Rakell, no Fowler, no Sprong, no picks.

Seriously, one of the worst proposals I've seen on here.

I don't think "tanking" should mean trading young players with hope.....Fowler, Rakell, Ritchie and Sprong. Teams don't sell off everyone just for picks/prospects that may or may not help three years down the road. Plus trading a multitude of NTCs may not be feasible.

Once again for the last time, Cam Fowler has a 4 team trade list? The odds that the NYI are on that list. Are slim to none.

Why do you insist on going around and telling people this?

A small chance doesn’t equate to zero. So why don’t you just assume that in Armchair GMs in which Fowler is traded, the team he goes to is one he has on his list. It would save a whole lot of time and stop you from appearing as a total buzz kill.
