They could, but if he absolutely refuses to play for them, you'd have to imagine they'd want at least something for a former #4 pick. I'm not saying this would be the best offer they would get, but it's better than losing him to Finland for nothing

EDM keeps his signing rights so they don't lose him for " nothing ". They can still trade him but his value will drop

Well it would be losing him for nothing if they just "left him in Finland" as you suggested before....

Are they really losing him though? I mean the guy was pretty much invisible when given the chance to play lol. BTW the leverage here is that EDM can reject every single trade offer and keep JP out of the NHL. The team isn't going to miss not having him, so if you ask me, they have all the leverage. They own his rights, they don't need him, nor is he a difference maker on the team. If I was the owner, the kid could spend the rest of his career in Findland for all I care.

Hurt yourself by letting him sit, or hurt yourself by giving him to an opposing team. Its two kinds of hurt.

They don't have any leverage right now. I agree. So why trade him at all? Why not let him go play in Finland so EDM can get some leverage? EDM should either let him stay there or hope someone pays up.

Oilers have four years, maybe five on NHL control of JP even if he goes to Finland this year. Don't might trade especially if the Oilers can trade Names at TDL.
