Stamkos at LW makes alot of sense .. depends on Cirelli development. GOURDE is PK and 4th line grinder .. Johnson may get look as 3C .. he really doesnt have a home after failing mightily in top 6

Seems like a legit offer to me based on the market in the past. Only one who comes close to this situation is Staal during the final year of his ELC. He eventually got a 3 year bridge at 10.23% of the salary cap at the time, which would be about 8.3m today. Since everyone likes to cite the no tax state for giving a touch less than market value, 7.5 is good,

But with Marner in a similar situation, I think Point and co. are trying to wait for the market to rise in his favour.

Johnson as 3rd center would be even worse than he is right now imo.

Maybe having him back at his original position would help, and playing bottom 6 minutes would mean for him to face easier competition. On the left wing of Point and Kuch he looks like a freeloader that does nothing beside benefit from the work of the other two. I definitely appreciated Gourde more on that line last season, his tough and gritty game on the boards is more complementary to Kuch and Point

I know that and I agree. I'm just worried that we would bury him mentally if we demote him to bottom 6.

If that's the issue, let's put him there ASAP so maybe he'll accept to waive his NTC next summer in order to go play on a team that gives him the 2C spot lol

Wait are we saying TJ failed in the top 6? 50 point seasons are no longer acceptable? WTF

Let's be honest, if we'd have played Gourde with Point and Kuch all year he'd have at least gotten 60-65.

I wish Johnson could get back the mojo of his 72 points season, we'd literally be unstoppable

Gourde hypothetically doing better doesn't mean Johnson failed. 50 points is very good for a complementary top 6 player.

Not when you are playing with one of the best duo in the game IMO

The offer to the Avs is pretty fair. Question marks on Palat's drop in numbers versus Beaucage's potential. Don't think the Avs would do it though. Not in the habit of trading good prospects.

My neighborhood paperboy can have 40 pts playing with Point and Kuch .. need better player with those 2 and move Johnson and Gourde to back 6 forwards .. I would think Palat Joseph and even a Cruncher will get 1st line reps over first half of season

would be a good pick up and sure he could waive with Kaut and Francouz, other Czech players on the team.
But just cant see a deal with those sort of pieces unless Avs make another trade.....too many fowards on the roster already and no one is waiver exempt. Nieto, Kamanev at the very least would have to be in a deal to make room for a fwd like Palat

Just too crowded roster wise to straight up add another Top 9 forward

Point and Kucherov might be really good, but plug in a player who doesn’t fit and you’ve messed up the entire line. Johnson is expendable and replaceable unless he suddenly becomes the Johnson from 2015, but it’s not fair to discredit him because of his line mates. To play on a line like that, you need to be decent defensively, extremely fast, always in the right position, have a high hockey IQ, and be offensively talented enough to score when they’ve created an opportunity for you. There is more than one hockey player who can do that, but it’s not like you can take just anyone who can put on skates. The fact is, he complimented his line mates and managed to produce. That’s what makes a good season for a supporting piece. He’s not an irreplaceable superstar, but he’s not expected to be.
