Contract comparable

Description
Nylander money for Laine?
Pastranak money for Connor?
Hopeful thinking that contract comparables are still a thing and that the Marner contract won't decide the market going forward for RFA's coming out of their entry level contract?

Also, not sure about the lineup. Is Roslovic ready for top 6 minutes?

Pastrnak was underpaid at the day of the signing. Connor can get $7M+.

the problem is that you are looking at dollars, an actual comparable would be percentage of the cap, Pastrnak got 8.89% and nylander got 12.93%, so for the comparable it would be connor - 7,255,000 and laine - 10,537,950. this is all based on this years cap at 81.5 mil

Yeah if the comparables were all that simple all the RFA’s would be signed. Now the rumour is they all want the big dough on 3-5 year deals. The days of the long term deals coming out of ELAC seem to have passed

speculating about what the RFA's will sign for will just give me a headache. If the professional agents and GM’s cant find an even playing field I don’t think any of us amateur GMs will be able to either (Sorry). But on a more positive note, I don’t like the idea of starting Roslovic in the top 6 to start the season, hasn’t really been given the best opportunity to showcase his offensive talent yet, and If given the opportunity he should run with it.

The 12.93% is an inflated number due to signing mid-season, the number is actually ~8.7%-9.4% depending on if you use the $6.962M he is making now or the the actual annual value over the course of the contract ($45M/6Y).

8.7%-9.4% ==> 7.09M - 7.66M

I think he will, too.

I would have no problem paying Connor that %. Laine, as of right now, I wouldn't sign for that much...

Not so much rumour. It's a fact now. I don't think Marner will get a longer contract than Mathews...

That's a fair comparison.
