A Season Without Marner

Created by: Broad93
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 27, 2019
Published: Aug. 27, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
There is a possibility that the Leafs won't have Mitch Marner in the lineup for this coming season, I don't believe its the likely outcome but there is a possibility. Looking at their roster to date I believe this is the lineup that the team will ice if the Marner contract does indeed not happen.

Thoughts?

I wonder how this would effect the future RFA market.... it is irreplaceable damage as well, cant let him sit a year and then sign him... would ultimately end in a trade if this occurs

I'm in full agreement with you there, if a deal cannot be reached I would say the most likely scenario would be a trade. However, I couldn't even begin to think what the return for a player like Marner would be.

I'd love to see how he'd play with a player like Tavares to be honest, especially if Marner isn't on the team.

I do not think marner sitting is a real possibility. The dude has a chance to play for his home team for millions of dollars, he will sign something rather than make under a million in Zurich (although the team released that he only asked to practice with them, not play so they kind of undermined any leverage marners camp hoped to gain there).

fear monger fear monger fear monger...fake news fake news.
I don't know why people waist their time with posts like these. Only a total idiot thinks Marner doesn't get signed to a deal of some sort of term.

Doubt if Marner sits....as suggested he loses millions this year and maybe more next year. And certainly no team accepts a trade for him unless he is signed. Is there any team going to sign Marner to a contract which is much different than the Leafs offer?
But if Marner does "sit", Leaf have known cap space after December 1. Maybe Gardiner for a year plays for the Leafs starting in December.

I don't get the whole play Kapanen on the left side thing. Put him on the 3rd line with Kerfoot to play against lesser competition, he'll look better and he really doesn't work with Matthews. Or play him on the RW with Tavares and let Tavares be the playmaker on that line. Matthews and Nylander should have a bigger guy who can crash the net and win battles along the boards instead of a rush player. Having someone that can create space for Nylander and Matthews is the way to go. Kapanen is not that player at all

Might be the only position that Bracco can play....in the top 6. Not saying he can do it this season....or ever. But it would be a heck of an opportunity for Bracco.
Might pump his valueapplaud but it might also plummet to him being considered just an AHLercry

I couldn't agree with you more. Kapanen is a nice player, but he looked out of place on Matthew's wing a lot of the time.

Matthews and Nylander should play the entire season together. I would like to see Hyman back on their line, but it's more likely to be Johnsson.

I think Mikheyev could find a home next to Matthews and Nylander. He's got the wheels, good hands and is big. He could be exactly what those guys need and if he is good with crashing the net, he could score a lot of goals by cleaning up Matthews garbage.

I want to see a Kerfoot, Johnsson and Kapanen 3rd line. Those guys could feast on other 3rd lines.

I hope you are right about Mikheyev. I haven't seen him play much. He looks pretty lanky they way he skates. Hopefully he can keep up.

The scouting report is he's strong skater with good hands and is a versatile player. Will be given a shot to kill penalties and hopefully given a chance to carve out a roll with the top skill guys.
