Letang, Chucky and Schultz are not worth any of those returns.

I think there would be teams that move a first for Schultz or Galchenyuk at the deadline.
And you don't think Letang could get a younger dman, a first, and a couple prospects?

Lucky for you, this isn't a remotely realistic post. ?

They were just an easy team to trade him to since they had a defenseman on the block, and I think Pittsburgh would want one coming back if they're trading Letang.

I understand the reasoning, but if you look at buffalos roster it doesn't make sense. The hole right now is at center, even if mittelstadt takes a big step, objectively another center has to come from outside the organization (or cozens) to make this a playoff team. Also, a team that finished near the bottom of the league in goals added Marcus Johansson and jimmy vesey, so adding another adult winger to score goals would also be on the short list. the d looks like dahlin and a bunch of upgraded average d. Plus the sabres have gone crazy drafting d the last couple years (I mean they're all lhd, but still). As far as value of the trade goes, letang probably gets a late first from a playoff team and a good prospect, not sure he gets quite this much but the market changes sometimes. Injuries, age, and contract hurt here, but the guy puts up when he's healthy.

This would be the reasoning from your side. I get it though, forwards are the positon of need right now, not defense.

Honestly nope. No one is giving you a 1 at the deadline for Chucky rental in the 2020 draft. Think best, like best case scenario, you can see is a similar to Zucc return, conditional 2 & 3 at best.

Dont think you get that return for a Schultz rental either, but its more believable.

If Letang was 2 years younger and not a continual injury risk, value is probably right then, but taking on 3 more years at 7.25m for 50/60 a year, you better be one piece away from winning it all to get that guy.

Zucc return is a decent comparable I guess, but the Rangers were super close to getting two firsts in that one, so one (even if it's conditional) is not too far fetched, especially if he's on pace for 50-60 points.
Letang's injury history would concern teams, yeah, but he'd still get a solid return. It depends what you think of the pieces coming back.
And usually when I do a teardown I sell everyone for their highest value, so I get a lot of feedback telling me I oversold everyone... Lol. It's a bad habit.
