Description
Some questions

-Who's on the top line? Who's on the second?
-Where would Honka go (trade)?
-Pavelski plays C or RW?
-Faksa is 3C or 4C?
-Where does Perry fit?
-Janmark on which top9 line?
-Polak on RD2 until Jones is back?
-Oleksiak over Fedun?
-Should Gurianov be a regular?
-Fedun & Dowling up?
-Dellandrea makes the team?

(What's your lines, assuming Seguin is a lock at 1C, Lindell LD1, Klingberg RD1 and Heiskanen LD2)

I am not a Stars fan/don't follow them enough

I would play Pavelski with Seguin and play Radulov with Benn to spread it all.
XXX-Seguin-Pavelski
Benn-Hintz-Radulov
Janmark-Faksa-Perry
Cogliano-Dickinson-Comeau

With one of Robertson or Gurianov taking 1LW. If none of them win it, move Janmark up there and put Gurianov or Robertson as the 3LW.

Pavelski has lost so many steps. I wouldn't expect him to be on the top 6.
There is a reason SJS let him walk.

Guy puts up 38 goals last season, seems like he has all the steps he needs. Highly doubt they signed him to 7mil for 3 years to play 3rd line minutes

yes, it's because of cap issues

It's not just money.
12 of those goals were on the PP.
His 5v5 stats were ok, don't get me wrong. But he's a year old and getting slower.
You can see the change coming, his GF/GA was even last year on 5v5. That hasn't happened since a rare season in 2009.
if you take out his injury year, his GFoi is the lowest it's been since 2010, in a league where scoring is up.
You give the age, look at some of the advanced stats and start to see the decline is there. He's 35, he's had a good career, but he's not going to be a top line player forever.
I wouldn't count on him being a top 6 player in a league that keeps getting faster. The legs just aren't there anymore.
I'm just being honest, I don't think he can keep up with say Seguin on the ice. He'd slow him down.

- Top Line: Benn-Seguin-Radulov
- 2nd Line: Gurianov-Hintz-Pavelski
- With the injury to Valimaki, I could see Calgary being interested in a 6th/7th defenseman. Winnipeg could also use some help on the right side, so they may kick the tires on Honka (personally I wouldn't trade him, but I doubt he remains with Dallas)
- Pavelski starts on the RW side, but Montgomery loves to shift players around all year. It's possible he plays some Center, but RW is where he'll likely start the season.
- IF Dellandrea starts the season at the NHL level, for his 10-game tryout, Faksa is the 4C, allowing Dellandrea to play between Perry & Dickinson instead of Comeau & Cogliano. If Dellandrea is sent to the OHL out of training camp, Faksa is the 3C with Dickinson occupying that 4C role. The Stars likely aren't going to have much of a difference in TOI between their 3rd and 4th lines this year.
- Janmark on the 4th line, at best. Personally, if it were me, it would be up to either him or Comeau as to which one gets scratched.
- Johns has been cleared by all doctors. Assume he's ready to go for game 1. If not, move Heiskanen to the right side (where he played in Finland), and move Oleksiak up to 2LD. Polak needs to spend as little time on the ice as possible.
- Oleksiak over Fedun every day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
- Gurianov is the likely top-6 fix at LW this season. He dominated the AHL last season, and really has nothing left to prove at that level. He's definitely a full-time player this year. It's put up or shut up time for him.
- With the Stars having 7 defensemen (including Johns), Fedun starts the year at the AHL level, and is an injury call up. Dowling is a career AHL guy. He should be behind L'Esperance, Mascherin, and Caamano in terms of AHL call-ups. There's a reason, he hasn't been able to stick in the NHL.
- As alluded to above, Dellandrea likely starts the year in Dallas, but winds up back in Flint after his 10-game tryout period is up. Unless he really impresses, he won't be in Dallas longer than a month or so.

Likely Opening Night Lines (not necessarily my ideal lines):

Benn-Seguin-Radulov
Gurianov-Hintz-Pavelski
Dickinson-Dellandrea-Perry
Cogliano-Faksa-Comeau
Janmark

Lindell-Klingberg
Heiskanen-Johns
Oleksiak-Polak
