Take the chumps out of the equation and Ottawa probably still doesn't do it. Why would they?

If Ottawa would take Poehling, Fleury and a 1st, MB would have done it already.

Truth is, I don't think Chabot's worth that much - Karlson couldn't get that much return so... no reason to give that for Chabot. Oh and, I think Ottawa is more in need of their future 1st line forward, more than a good young Defenseman in my opinion. Plus, they get a promising top4 d, a 1st rounder and a top 6 d AND they get rid of Ryan. Honestly, I think MTL overpays a bit on that one.

This kind of justification shows you have no idea what you're talking about.

Comparing Karlsson and Chabot is laughable. 2 totally different scenarios. You are clueless.

Chabot is also 22, not 28 like Karlsson was, and he's off to a better start to his NHL career than Karlsson had.

This deal doesn't get you five minutes with Chabot's jock. They won't trade him to Montreal full stop.

Karlsson publicly demanded out. was traded with 1 year before UFA not RFA. and is significantly older than 22 year old chabot. The MOST VALUEABLE asset in the nhl is a young point producing defenseman. Karlsson brought back an nhl player in tierney former 2nd rounder. an nhl player in demelo former 6th rounder. norris. 1st rounder from prior year. balcers 5th rounder and then a first a 2nd and 2 more conditional picks. Only terrible thing about bobby ryan is his contract he can still score goals. He just isnt worth 7.25m. But you are sending a former 3rd rounder and a former 1st rounder that havent proven anything in the nhl yet with a cap dump in alzner who literally cant play. a first NEXT YEAR. for a guy that just put up 55 points on a crap team at age 22.... you need to overpay or chabot doesnt get moved.

a 22 year old point producing top line defenseman for a bunch of prospects. tell me how many games mete, suzuki, poehling, fleury, and kotkaniemi have played at the nhl level. Only one with real nhl time is Kotka, and i did say probably. i didnt say definitively add him in. but its not like mete, suzuki, poehling, and fleury are CANT miss prospects.

im not going to pick sides or nothing but the truth is karlsson had nowhere near the value chabot has simply cause of term and impact on ice chabot is 22 and the best dman on the team and under contract for a while longer most likely 8 more years after this and karlsson was on his way out was about to be a ufa and honestly not as good in his zone as i feel chabot will be no offence to karlsson his offensive impact is MASSIVE but chabot i feel is more responsible in his zone and who knows could end up being a better dman. There is more of course especially since chabot is the anchor to there rebuild on defence and trading him away would make it diffcult to replace.

Yeah I get that, What I think you guys don't realize is that no team is gonna trade half their team + half their picks for a single player, exceptional or not. If that was the case, Laine, Marner etc would be traded by now. Whenever trades do happen, it's always a significantly lower price than what people expect here.

Oh and don't take yourselves too seriously, this is just a forum.

Cheers!

this is where google comes in handy, whatever 20 career points in 120 games or a guy that just put up 55 in 70? i mean a package of mete, poehling, suzuki, alzner, fleury and 2021 first for ryan and chabot isnt that far off. but no team wants to drain the pool for one guy. and no team wants to give up cost controlled young players.

exactly though. no team wants to gut their team/farm for 1 player and the other team doesnt want to give away the best player in the deal for scraps.

I mean mete isnt meant to be a high end goal scorer for the record he is a stay at home defenceman.

So basically they were sticking "the kid" with their best defender. I gotcha similar to mcavoy but mcavoy was a far better player.

basically yeah except of course mcavoy has MASSIVE potential and mete is still kind of coming into his own and is playing next to one of the most dependable dmen in the nhl

Chabot won’t be available for a trade period................for the next few years until OTT realizes they can’t afford him just like every other star they’ve had....

Depends on where the team is, if they have m,mostly young players in their 20s and need a top end Dman and have the picks and cap space to keep em all, trading prospects and picks for a sub 23 #1 dman is smart if they need one. Gms who say they will not mortgage the future for now should be immediately fired and black listed by all teams,Cup windows now are realy short, look at LA and Chicago.

Obviously MTL is not going to add both poehling and Suzuki as they still need some C propsect, but OTT would get 1 of them++++
