Pietrangelo will get at least 9,5 on the market. He is one of the best in nhl.

He is quite good. But is he better than OEL or Carlsson?

I just simply don't agree.

Check out his hockey reference page

https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/p/pietral01.html

The highest he has ever been in Norris voting was 4th 8 years ago

Over the last 5 years he wasn't even voted for twice (last year being one of the years), and was 9th, 16th and 22nd the other three years.

He is a very good defenseman but he is probably about 15th-20thish best defenseman. He isn't a perennial Norris favourite.

To compare to Pietrangelo, Carlsson was 4th in Norris voting last year, 5th the year before, not voted the two years before that and 10th the year before that.

Ekman Larsson was 11th, not voted twice, and 9th and 17th. He's probably closer

He puts up 50-60pts and plays really good D (last yr was a down yr for him all around, until the playoffs). I don't really care about a popularity contest. Any "defensive" trophy Brent Burns wins means nothing.

OEL n Carlson are great. Not taking anything away from them.

So forget the votes. I'm just saying realistically he is not a top 10 d men. He's certainly in that next tier, and is absolutely excellent, franchise d, all that. I just think he's a tier below the truly top end guys.

Pietrangelo remind me off doughty he don’t care how much point he put on Board he does what the team need. He was amazing in playoff he could easily won the conn smyth if ryan o’reilly doesn’t had super performance in finals

Yeah he is really damn good. In the end I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. I just personally think he's very good but a tier below the top in the league. Thanks for the chat

I take Petro over OEL. Petro 2way #1D/OEL offensive #1D. Im a goalie who likes defense, go figure
Carls n Petro are very close. Both 2way D, but Car is more O and Petro is more D. But it also has to do w the team's they play for

Yeah because even strength both have similar number! Carlson add 33 point on a nasty washington powerplay. St-louis split time between dman on powerplay. Are you familiar with mlb w.a.r ? There something similar in hockey defensive point share and offensive point share if you have the chance to read on it, you might fund this interesting

Again as I said to Sebybbq. At this point we've said our pieces and I think we're just gonna have to agree to disagree. Either way he is great. That's for sure.

Thanks for the chat

Carlson scores 70 points last year and he’s extremely underrated defensively. Both guys are great at and should get similar contracts. Tbh tho Carlson is the more attractive player. 70 point dman are rare. Dude is easily a top 10 dman arguably top 3 rhd

Big difference imho between Carlson and Pietro is their career trajectories.

Pietro joined the league and like his 2nd or 3rd year at like 22 was 4th in Norris voting. Looked like a stud. Then regressed a tad and has been more or less consistent as that second tier of defenseman (behind the doughtys and hedmans of today's or the doughtys and Weber's and charas of 5 years ago). Carlson the other hand came into the league and established himself as a top 4 dman and then slowly as a top pairing dman. But he didn't become a stud until about 25 or 26.

So I think a lot of people fail to realize those steps he's taken in the last 3 years or so

If I had to choose between Pietrangelo, Carlson, and OEL, I'd definitely take Pietrangelo.

Both Petro and Schenn will probably get more on the open market. I think the Blues lock Petro up for 9 mil. Depending on how the season is going I think they move Schenn or let him walk after the season. Kevin Hayes just got over 7 mil and Skinner getting 9 so Schenn is looking at those contract and wanting at least 8. Which IMO he is not worth and I would like to see him moved at the deadline unless we look primed for another run.

As for the OEL Carlson Petro debate, Carlson is the overall best out of the 3. Petro is the best defensively. With cap rising each year Petro is looking at a deal similar to Carlsons so 9 mil is the number I am guessing.
