This doesn't exactly count as a surprise pick like that or anything, but I'd be looking at Nick Schmaltz as having a big breakout. I honestly think 70 points is reachable for him this year, and I'm predicting he gets there.

But if I had to pick a player that most casual fans haven't heard of, it's Sasha Chmelevski. I think he's in the Sharks top six by thanksgiving and ends up with 40-50 points.

First, I think this means players ... second, that wouldn't be a surprise at all.

If they get into the top-3 that wouldn't be a surprise at all. I think about 50% of people are picking Florida in the top 3.

I'm pretty optimistic that he can. CJ Turtoro's viz on zone entries and exits (found here: https://public.tableau.com/profile/christopher.turtoro#!/vizhome/2-yearA3ZPlayerComps/ComparisonDashboard), Nick Schmaltz compares pretty favorably with Evgeni Malkin in his ability to transition out of the defensive zone and into the offensive zone with the puck, as well as his shot contributions and assists, so he might low-key be pretty good at setting up Phil Kessel in the same way that Malkin did, which would be rad.

I call your Sasha Chmelevski and raise you an Alexander True: 24 G, 55 P in 68 GP with the Barracuda last season as a 21-year-old, which is pretty good.

Chmelevski definitely could make the team. 40-50 points right away might be too high but he could get that at some point.
