if you wanna do a rebuild.. kopitar and doughty should be traded.. it's how you accelerate it so you don't spend years in mediocrity. just look at the NYR and they really didn't have anyone of that caliber. The returns on McD, Miller, Nash, Grabner, Zucc, Hayes, etc all ensured that the "rebuild" only took a season and a half. Now it's just a build up of experience.

I wont lie the Canes trade is ALOT to ask.

I think the Jets would take it in a heart beat. They only gain 1 million in cap from Carter and Kulikov swamp. They get their second line center and someone like Lowery and Copp. Plus, that first would be low as they go for a Cup

Agreed, but who takes on either of those 10 plus million dollar deals? especially Doughty who starts his 8 years THIS YEAR

Carter basically sucks now so I don't see how he is an upgrade over Roslovic at this point.

Quicks contracts basically makes him useless to every team in the league.

Doughty is still a top 5 defender and kopitar is still a top center. You may have to take a cap dump back but that could increase the return. I'm sure Philly would love to get Doughty, and WPG sould be in the mix for Kopitar (kulikov and/or little could be included for cap purposes).. they both have some good prospects to target as well. Vesalainen, Provorov, Morin, etc

ok so lets say I do it like this. LA gets Roslovic, kulikov and Little plus 1st , 2nd and 3rd for kopitar and Lewis?

I'm not a WPG fan but it seems fair to me. I would target Vesalainen over Roslovic though

Canucks fan here actually loving that LAK-VAN trade! Gives VAN a better player for one year then frees up cap space by losing Beagle's deal. Nice job.

I think the only Vancouver players the Kings would be interested in are Kole Lind, Zack MacEwen or Jett Woo. I wouldn't mind them even up for Tyler; that's about the best we can hope for with a guy on an expiring contract.

About three years too late. Los Angeles has allowed their veterans to age and their trading value to decline. It is going to be a long road to compatibility.

I agree. LA would need to take toxic contracts back or retain salary. Still, the thought of taking on lengthy contact would be a deterrent to GMs. These veterans would make perfect playoff rentals but not desirable for multiple seasons. LA is caught between what worked six years ago and today’s youth movement and speed.

The Rangers traded for Trouba, age 25, 7 yrs/$8M, Doughty, 29, 8 yrs/$11 M. Perhaps the cost of acquiring Doughty was too expensive. Perhaps, Doughty relocating to New York was not what he wanted. Perhaps the Rangers wanted a younger & cheaper player. I am not comparing Trouba to Doughty. I am simply illustrating what I think is the trend in the NHL.

LA needs to move their veterans but it is the terms of their contract which most likely will be the deal breaker.
