EDM fans I have questions for you

Description
I'm a Hawks and Pens fan, and also enjoy watching Vegas. Don't know a ton about EDM. You have McDavid and Draisaitl, so aside from goaltending, why isn't your team competitive? With that, I have 3 big questions to ask you. :)

1. Is it wise to put McDavid and Draisaitl on the first line together?

2. Is Adam Larsson on the table to be dealt?

3. How good is Darnell Nurse?

Please tell me in the comments who your 23 man roster would be.

1.) Yes it is wise, its the reason Draisaitl got 50 goals.

2.) if the right offer comes in we might take it.

3.) He's our best Dman.

1. They're two great players who play well together, but ideally Draisaitl would be centering his own line.
2. Adam Larsson should be on the trade block, but he's probably not gonna get you a really good player in return, ya know someone like a Taylor Hall type.
3. Nurse is exceptional, and if they somehow lose him after this year it'll be a huge blow to their defense.

I feel like the answers should be

1) They don't really have a choice, without McDavid Draisaitl hasn't been half as impressive as the 50 goal man he was with McDavid.

2) They should trade him for sure, if they get a 2nd rounder and a decent prospect they should take it and run. Larsson isn't anything special but some still think his pedigree means something and find bigger defensive defenceman with terrible advance stats are good. Larsson is similar to Gudbranson but he can skate a lot better.

3) Nurse still has a lot of growing to do. Decent offensively but is not currently capable of playing against top opposition.

call Chai Pet. his trades and signings have tanked this team.....again. what are we at now, a 13 year rebuild? We started to come up for air then Chai got his hands on this roster, was gifted McDavid.....then traded full dollars for 25 cents pieces.

biggest problem the oilers have is that the nhl forces a team to play 18 players a game. oilers only have a few above average nhl players, mcdcvid, draisaitl, nugenthopkins, nurse and klefbom. their big middle core is constantly below league norms. if the oilers ever get to be a playoff team they need their middle group to hold to be as good as their opposition

Having McDavid and Draisaitl doesn't automatically make a team competitive.
This isn't basketball.

The team has no depth, bad goaltending, and a bad blue line.

Combination of failing to develop draft picks after the 1st round (historically) and (mainly) Chiarelli absolutely butcherings Oilers depth by losing substaintial value in trade after trade is the biggest reason we suck.

Here is an exercise to give you an idea on how bad Oilers depth is.

If you remove the top 5 goal scorers on every team (last season for Oilers; McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Chiasson, Kassian), Oilers scored the least amount of goals of any team in the league. By a massive margain. In fact, Oilers depth scoring was so bad that it last season qualified as the worst depth scoring of any team in +40 years (cant remember exactly but I think in 48 years).

It was so bad that you could add a 10 goal scorer to 2018/19 Oilers and they would still have the worst depth scoring in that time period.

Chiarelli traded away roster players and got bad value back every time. When his back was against the wall he scorched the earth in an attempt to keep his job. Because we fail to promote players from our youth club we had nothing on the wings.

1. Draisaitl and McDavid are dynamic together like few others. If RNH actual had 2nd line wingers good enough to help him push offense it would be a great idea.

2. At this point there is none to replace him. Oilers would need to find a replacement. Given that he is soon UFA and the return for him would be unsatisfactory, I'd say no. Unless management dont think he will re-sign

3. Nurse had a good year and is a top 4 defender with potentional and trajectory to be top 2. He likes to carry the puck but he doesnt always have stellar decisionmaking.

Poor decision making from ownership and management really sewered the team for more than a decade. A fanboy turned owner who hired his childhood heroes and let them run the franchise into the ground, plus his stubborn refusal to admit that great players dont translate into great executives derailed what could have been. There is light ahead of the tunnel with the Old Boys Club mostly gone, the abomination that was Peter Chiarelli slain, and one of the greatest team builders now at the helm. He has a mammoth task ahead of him, but judging by his moves I'm happy he isnt a "jump the gun" type of GM overpaying here NMC/NMT there.. patience is the key though it is mostly in short supply with the fanbase. Very tricky to navigate.

1. Yes. Talent with Talent. They are deadly on the ice together and have fantastic chemistry. One unsung part of sports management is to keep your core players happy so keeping this dynamic duo together is just as important as anything in my opinion. Besides, you have Nuge to run the 2nd line anyway and he's fine as long as he has decent wingers. Only due to the Oilers lack of depth are we even talking about having all three as centermen and hoping for the best.

2. He is, but he shouldnt be. Him and Klefbom make a good SECOND pair in the NHL. Oilers bad depth and lack of true 1st pairing D (Cmon Nurse and Bouchard..) force these two to play outside their recommended usage. Klef now gets injured and Adam has too much on his plate. If both of these guys play no more than 20 minutes a night, it would benefit both them and the team. Less is more.

3. He's a budding talent we would be stupid to get rid of. He needs to learn to play defense and has been improving throughout his career. Looking like he could potentially be that 23+ minute shutdown D that can chip in points here and there. Just needs to reel it in instead of leaving his D partner high and dry for the big hit. Needs a partner who can move the puck as that is not his game. Could form a potential 1st pairing with Bouchard with the way both their trajectories are pointing.

I would absolutely trade larsson if the right offer came along. Obviously it wouldn't be anything special for a guy like him, I wish we could get maybe a middle six winger for him but who knows, that is just wishful thinking on my part. He doesn't really move the needle at all and even if he has a "bounce back" season that's probably more so due to the fact that the team is better because he brings nothing offensively. I like the guy and its not his fault he was traded for hall but once his next contract comes up he'll be 29 (born in early november so 15 or so games into his next contract he's 29) he will be the definition of easily replaceable
