Why is Aho not a comparable

Created by: leafsFan1996
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 29, 2019
Published: Aug. 29, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Aho is in the same tier as Rantanen, Point and Marner.

Aho is the best forward on his team which is not true for the other players listed and he is a center which adds more value than rantenan or Marner.

Sure it was an offersheet but he still had to accept the money. I don't understand why this is not a precedent for the other high end RFA's. especially with no other viable offersheet threats which lowers the leverage the rfa's currently have.

it bugs me when people (especially on here) try to galaxy brain why Marner should make 2-3 million more than his direct comparables.

Leafs fans will say marner is better than Aho except when it comes time to pay him...

Again I have to say it: 4 years x 12 mill for Marner is reasonable

Aho is 100% comparable. The only reason fans think he deserves more is due to the hype machine fueled by a couple of guys named Darren

If they are all in the same tier Marner is the top of the tier as he has out produced all of them...

It boils down to an inferiority complex from Marner's camp which leads to numbers being thrown around that don't make a lot of sense...for anyone other than Marner. And his supporters.

Pretty much this. How dare this 94 point player want to get paid as such.

For starters, Aho is closer to Point being that there both centers. Secondly, Marner scored more points than all these guys did. Playing in Toronto means higher taxes than Carolina. Aho took a deal that was lower than he probably should have got. The reason he said "**** it" is because he got a huge chunk of money right away so it kind of swayed him to take a little less than he might have been able to get had he waited out.

Im not saying Marner deserves 12M or anything but I also don't think 10M is asking too much for him either.

His comparables are Tavares and Matthews, if you pay your two stars 11 mill, the third is going to want (and deserve) somewhere around 11 mill as well

Lots of little reasons why. Marner's done it for 2 seasons vs Aho's 1. CAR started with a lowball offer and MTL ultimately did CAR a favor by issuing the offer sheet. but most of all...there is a history of Dubas caving in these situations and if you treat 1 person a certain way...why am I any different?

13 for 3 or 14 for 2 also works imo

He is. 100%. Id argue that Aho is better player than Marner just because of his versatility on wing and center.

Also: 30 is more than 26, and 83 is more than 67.

Marner has also had better linemates. Aho plays center which is more valuable. There are factors that balance things out here - nothing you say indicates a player worth millions more annually.

Aho signed the contract with Montreal, remember? I'm pretty sure you'll find Quebec taxes similar to Ontario's.

He is. Marner's played one more game. Has 27 more points. Approximately 10% more . That's 8.54 plus 10%. Or 10.3 mil over 5 year...

what about the 41 goal 128 point player making 9.5 million, or the 30 goal, 83 point center making 8.45?

Getting paid as such is around this area not 11 million

That's funny, does that mean Aho is being taxed in Quebec right now?..... He signed that deal knowing Carolina would match....where the taxes aren't as high....

I got no issue with Paul. Things I've heard him say may seem outlandish but it's not that crazy to think your kid is the best cause he's your kid. The Darren's are the far more guilty party since Ferris basically throws a tantrum in front of the media every off season and Dreger basically acts as the soapbox for Ferris to stand on in exchange for the rights to break the story first. Guaranteed when Marner finally puts pen to paper Dreger will be the first to confirm it.

Marner's done it for 2 seasons vs Aho's 1.

Done what? In 2017-18 Marner scored 0.84 P/GP while Aho was at 0.83. But, Aho scored 29 goals to Marner's 22. So what exactly has Marner done for 2 seasons that Aho has only done for 1?
