It's been a while since I did one of these, so I might be significantly off. Any and all feedback will be appreciated.

Carlo > Brodie

So not sure why BOS would even consider that for a second.

It’ll take more to move out Backes and a 2nd won’t be going back. I think the Krieder trade is good even tho rags fans will be like “it starts with Pasta.” Carlo>Brodie and Brodie is a rental. And the Miller trade is fine. Anyway for not doing one of these for a while like u said it’s not bad

2 things. Number 1, I feel like you would have to add A LOT to get rid of Backes. Possibly a situation similar to Marleau, but since there is more term it could be even bigger. Number 2, I wouldn't trade Carlo for Brodie. Carlo looks to be a core piece of Boston's blue line for years to come. IF they were to trade for Brodie, the picks should be on the other side imo.

Miller move seems good for both teams assuming he's a healthy #5/6D again.

I think Backes + Frederic probably doesn't get you a second + fourth back unfortunately. Backes is just that toxic a contract. Marleau's $6M cap hit cost a first to move, but Backes has that for two seasons and Arizona can't fit Backes in even with Hossa's LTIR money. I think Boston would need to retain a fair bit ($2M to $3M) on the Backes contract to get back the return you have shown.

As a Flames fan, I think that it's great that we pillaged Boston for them to rent (and maybe re-sign) Brodie, but I don't think there's any chance they are moving Carlo. Maybe straight across for a re-signed Brodie plus a pick or two from the Flames, but even then I doubt it.

Kreider deal seems like a slight overpay from Boston's POV due to 2020 being a stacked draft class, but given the price for rentals at the deadline, I could see it happening. Boston probably prefers to move the 2021 1st though.

Arizona can't afford to take on that cap hit, and you'd have to add more to get anyone to take him for basically nothing, which is why I think Boston will struggle to keep both McAvoy AND Carlo. However I'd take Carlo over Brodie every day, picks should be going the other way as Carlo is younger, and will be better if he isn't already and Brodie is a rental so it would be at the very least a straight swap. Miller trade, fine. Kreider trade is pretty good value.

Zona is already cap tight can’t take Backes and the most you would get with that combo is a 6th or 7th.

Mac won’t sign for that.

Carlo > Brodie and has more trade value than he does. Not a good move and Flames would be adding picks not B’s. Still would be bad.

Rangers deal is fair. Doubt either side would do it though.

Backes is completely different than Marleau. I don't understand why people can't understand this.
Marleau has said he would not play for anyone but SJ or Tor. So that is huge. It was a cash transaction. CBJ bought a draft pick.
The real money is more for Marleau. Keeping/playing Backes this year & buying out next would be substantially cheaper & less of a cap hit - 4m in 2020-21 & 1m in 2021-22. 3m in real money. That is not worth a 1st rd pick. It's not.
Toronto had their hands tied. They had multiple people they needed to sign and have money available in case of offer sheets.
Yes, it would cost more move Backes this year, but they don't need to at all. If you think they need money this year... More than enough money can be found by moving; Moore, Miller, Halak and maybe 1 or 2 of their 4th line 1m guys. They have a bunch (Lindholm, Nordstrom, Wagner, Ritchie).

Not gonna lie, for some reason I thought Backes had like 4 years left so my evaluation is definitely off. All I'll say is IF they wanted to move him this year, it would still definitely cost more than the proposed package.

Agreed, mostly. I think they could use Frederic as the sweetener, but they would only get back a d level prospect or a 7th rd pick and that's not worth it to them. Since they are desperate to shed his salary this year, it doesn't make sense to give up on a 20 year old 1st rd pick (or equivalent) to move him this year. Backes still has some game left and is a great leader. You know it absolutely killed him to get benched in SCF, but you he didn't say a word. He will be much, much easier to move next year, or the Bruins will just buy him out and not lose the high level prospect or pick. Don't get me wrong, it will cost something, but Frederic is a pretty good prospect.

Or Backes ends up on LTIR due to concussion issues and Boston doesnt have to worry about moving him this year
