3x6m for Boeser please

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 29, 2019
Published: Aug. 29, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Reports are that Boeser's agent has asked for 4x7m, but I think his direct comparable is Meier in San Jose who got a million less per year over the same term.

So the Nucks should offer him a 6m x 3 year bridge deal.
It gives Boeser a chance to hit the jackpot a year earlier, and it fits the team's cap situation with 3 larger contracts expiring that year (Eriksson 6m, Beagle 3m, Roussel 3m) while still ensuring RFA control.

It also works better within the team's cap for this year. Once Roussel comes of LTIR they can demote another player to the AHL (I picked Sutter here) and not have to make a trade to stay cap compliant.

I love Boeser and I think he can be a great player but he hasn't been able to stay healthy for a full season. I think 3x6 is a good deal for boeser. Probably doesn't even deserve that much right now

I'm not too worried about his injuries at this point. They've been more about bad luck than chronic issues, and his points-per-game puts him right in line with a guy like Meier. I think 6 mill is definitely fair for 3 or 4 years.

From your description it sounds like you think he will be ufa in 4 years. He won’t. I would stay with the 4 year term. Might be able to get him down to 6-6.5m on a 4 year deal.

No, I realize a 4 year deal still keeps him an RFA. The 3 year deal is more about slightly lowering the cap hit, and having it line up with the expiry of 3 other bad contracts.

I would still do the 6-7m over 4 years. With the rising cap and potential he has you could end up paying him 10-12m on a new deal in three years. Which really negates the 1.5-3m you save over 3 years. The cap can be manipulated easily by signing ufa’s to expire. Petterson expires in 2 years which gives you 2 years to line something up.

The one thing I do like about a 3 year deal is that he can not use arb to walk to ufa.
