You are going to be very disappointed.
Same as you with your offersheet on Tampa's players...
But jokes aside, Yzerman has already said that he will take it slow in
land, and yes he will try to trade away, sell every old player on Detroit rooster, but it will probably won't work, because noone will take those players, unless overpay like Toronto did with Marleau. And i bet giving up 1st round picks is the last thing Yzerman will do... Just to get rid of some old dudes.
Best way to solve Detroit's contracts problem = wait almost all of them to expire, keep all the draft picks, draft well in next 2-3 years. Then Detroit = can be really good team soon'ish. Maybe 1 player: Nielsen is neccesary to be traded before he hits age of 38, but idk much about his regression. He had alright numbers last season though.
One thing for sure: Yzerman can get "Gems" in draft and by trading. So Detroit has a bright future after getting him. It will just take time.
I expect Detroit to be playoff contenders again in 3 years, with a really young team.
I think in 2019/2020 season: top priority = Top 5 draft pick at all cost = tank
2020/2021 = probably same. After that we'll see... I think there is too many problems with Detroit to solve in 2020, so it will probably take a lot of time from Detroit fans, and just be patient, until all the pieces comes into the right place.
I just checked last 3 years for Detroit: 20,22,17 wins in regular time in 82 matches. That's not a lot, if i want to be very kind.
Yes i know it feels bad to lose a lot, but you will just need to accept it, that its gonna be same for a while.
But after that you will be just hyped for a season start, as
fans.
2021/2022 season = Expect good things, until then just don't be mad at your GM, even if you see no progress. Yzerman = god tier GM
and you will be happy with almost every trade he makes...
He will get it done, sooner or later.
