Marner will get a higher AAV than point no matter what, Tampa having the tax breaks should allow them to get Point under what Kuch makes

8x8.5, what was rumored. Tampa has no state tax and he loves tampa and probably wants to be able to keep the squad together
The state tax thing is significantly exaggerated in impact for three reasons
1) the state's governments still perform numerous public services. When they are not getting the money from state income taxes they get them from elsewhere (property tax, etc).
2) various jock taxes are still paid for all away games, so it is only home team games where the savings occur
3) if any of these players are not setting up complicated tax structures to shelter much of their incomes their nuts.
Special 4th) specifically comparing against Canadian teams. With the way the USD is, it is advantageous for Canadian players to earn in USD and spend in cad.
The tax benefit is maybe worth about 10-12%. That's would mean if 11 million is fair then maybe 9.8 million is fair after tax advantage.
In regards to comparing to marner, point is a C and a goal scorer. That should be worth more than the 10% difference in comparison. So point should make at least 10-12% more. If you want to say that's the tax difference then they should make about the same or point making more.
And before anyone brings up Kucherov, Tavares is like 4th in league wide goal scoring BEFORE he started with marner (over about a 6 year period). So he is playing with a superstar too
