Nah, most think he's not that great and McDavid somehow magically made him into a 50-goal scorer.

1.96 5v5 P1/60 isn't a great number for someone who people say is top 10 in his position. If he put up better defensive numbers, perhaps, but his great year isn't all it's cracked up to be. You can't look that much into the amount of points to judge a player.

People rank Kane as the 1st or 2nd best RW or even winger in general. He scores at a lesser rate than players such as Marner, Kase, Panarin, Hall, etc., and barely more than Marchand, Stone, and Pastrnak. Plus is much less of a defensive threat than more or less all of those listed. He's just a flashy player at this point, and doesn't put up the numbers to back up him being a top 5 winger in the league.

Kadri is a good 3C. Not much more. He's very meh offensively, good defensively. From what I've seen, people seem to think he's much more than he really is. This list is all subjective also, don't forget. Just because I'm saying he's overrated doesn't mean that you may rate him as such also.

Some guy said Faksa could've won the Selke in this comment section, think that kinda helps justify why he's here. He's an average 3C.

Petterson, like Kane, is pretty harsh defensively, and doesn't put up 'Top 10 C' numbers offensively either, yet plenty of people will still try to argue him being top 10.

WHAT??? You don't know hockey if you don't think Kane is a top 3 winger in the league. Just last year...

Kane
44 goals (5th best, behind Ovy, Draisaitl, Tavares, Stamkos)
110 points (3rd best, behind McDavid and Kucherov)
1.36 ppg (3rd best, behind Kuch and McDavid)
.54 gpg (7th best, behind Ovy, Drais, Arvidsson, Pastrnak, Tavares, Stamkos)

Yeah so wondering where Marner, Panarin, and Hall are that you think score more then Kane. None of those guys are ahead of him that you mentioned.

Kane is arguably the most elusive skater and stick handler in the league. There is a reason he's considered one of the best.

2 circa 110 point seasons in 4 last season for Kaner while having very high offense generating numbers and great possesion numbers. Defensively he stinks, but that doesnt mean he is overrated. I wouldnt call him that, but I think there are better wingers than him.

Faksa has great defensive numbers and eye test prove that 100%. He is not selke winner worthy but I would call him overrated either.

Kadri is definitely a top-6 centerman in NHL. Either 1st line one or 2nd line one and definitely not 3rd line one. He is massive luxury on 3rd line. Generates offense greatly. Is great defensively and also is great matchup centerman against guys like Crosby or McDavid where he thrives the most.

Pettersson had one year in NHL and on ****tie-ish team he was absolutely dominant player. Defense would come with age, but offensively he is a dynamo.

2.17 5v5 P1/60 is less than those that I listed. 15th in the league for forwards (min. 300 minutes)
2.83 5v5 P/60. 5th in the league for forwards (behind Kuch, Marner, etc.)

Comparing that to someone like Mark Stone, who is one of, if not the best two way forwards in the league:
1.81 5v5 P1/60
2.23 5v5 P/60
But where Kane is awful on defense, Stone is fantastic.

And yet 5th in goals, 3rd in points, 3rd in ppg, 7th in gpg...you know the main stats everyone looks at and Marner and Stone aren't ahead of Kane. Marner isn't even close in a couple of the categories. Again, is Ovy not the best generational talent in the league? Do you know where a lot of his goals come from?

Guys who can capitalize on the powerplay are worth a ton for a reason. Looking at stats and ignoring the PP as part of the game is just ignorance.

All these forwards have great attributes. To call any of them overrated is just silly.
Stone - best two way player
Marner - highest hockey IQ, greatest passer
Ovy - strongest shot and physical
Kane - best stick handling and most elusive
McDavid - fastest and best all around

You can't?? laugh

If a guy is consistently among the leaders in the league in both goals and points, I think you can draw some conclusions from that. Name one non-elite player that has scored 50 goals / 105 points in a season over the past 20 years.

Even if you look at the past 3 years, Draisaitl is 7th in the league for points and 12th for goals. He's 11th in P/GP in that span.

There were times that Kane was top 3 in goals, points and assists....all categories....that's just crazy. Ovy has never achieved that and he's a generational talent in today's league.

I wouldn’t call Tarasenko overrated. I think the thing with him is that his breakout season was so absurdly good and people thought he could be a top~10 or so player but he’s never been close to that good since. I would say he’s overrated as a goal-scorer but he’s still as good a hockey player as people say.

If you look at the past 3 years combined, Tarasenko has scored the 10th most goals in the league, with 105. He's not far behind the 3rd place players, Tavares and McDavid, who are tied at 112.

If you look at the past 5 years, Tarasenko ranks 3rd - just 1 goal behind Tavares but he's played 6 fewer games.

I wouldn't say he's overrated as a goal-scorer. He's clearly elite.

Yes, but a lot of people thought and still think that he can get 50 which was clearly unrealistic. Tarasenko is obviously elite, he just has never been close to how good he was in 14-15

Yeah, he'd need a lot of things to break right to get to 50. Like being traded to Edmonton! rock on

Seriously though, I don't think he'll get to 50 but 30-40 should be the expectation every year through the end of his contract.

Hard to argue that Price is overrated. He's kept his franchise afloat for over a decade and is still going strong

Vasy:
2017-2018: 3.51 GSAA, 81 HDSv%
2018-2019; 0.98 GSAA, 77.03 HDSv%
Fleury:
2017-2018: 8.21 GSAA, 76.76 HDSv%
2018-2019: -2.24 GSAA, 77.04 HDSv%
Price:
2017-2018: -17.77 GSAA, 74.59 HDSv%
2018-2019: 0.77 GSAA, 78.57 HDSv%

Those are not Top 10 goalie numbers, but people seem to believe they're top 10 or higher goalies.

Provorov isn't very good at all. 0.8 EvGAR, -2.27 RelGF%, 65.9 xGA.
Werenski is one of the most inconsistent players in the league.
Byfuglien is just physical. 0.39 P1/60, 1.9 EvGAR.

Drai 1.96 5v5 P1/60. Not great on D.
