Namestnikov would likely be a top-six forward in Edmonton, playing on the wing, instead of a 3C. IMO, he’d be hands-on favourite to play left-wing with RNH, and Neal would be on the right side. 5 of the top six would be left- handed, and that might concern Tippett, especially if Benson and Nygard are next on the depth chart.

But when buried Manning is a little more then a million dollar cap hit so it'd be almost $3M in cap savings for the Rangers, this is a trade Holland should be trying to make, doubt there's many teams looking to acquire Namestnikov and he'd be a top 6 winger for them.
This deal works for both teams imo.

The Ranger would save about 2.9m with a buried Manning, then they have replace Names let's say with 900,000 player so that 2m saving. The Rangers might be forced to make such as trade as you suggest. Names might help the Oilers, but the Oilers still might recoup the 3rd and 5th if they can trade Names at TDL (assuming the Oilers are "outta of the playoff race."

SJ could also put in a bid, if they aren't holding out for Marleau. They have a similar strategy of stacking the roster with skill and speed, and hoping defense takes care of itself. Namestnikov could fit with either, if NYR don't see a fit for him.
