Yup read that.. Laine might be traded, I dont see it with Mitchy. But they sure as hell should get high quality LHD for Laine.

I’m sure the ask is high (as it should be) but not as high as people on here think it will be IMO -if WPG does not want to pay the price for laine and that is known around the league, I would think they would lose some leverage in trade negotiations. They’ll still get a good return obviously, he’s an elite goal scorer

I usually don’t trust random twitter sources, but this account has been right on a bunch of recent signings/trades in the last couple of years.

An account on twitter - had Tavares to the leafs way before anyone else and panarin to the rangers when media and other accounts were saying Florida/isles. He’s usually spot on.

I think top pairing LHD or at least Top-4 LHD and fringe top-6 winger should be the value for Laine. He is kinda just goalscorer, but amazing one. If the deal wouldnt be for a tkachuk or someone, Laine is the best player in that trade.

It’s makes a lot of sense for the teams to give some sort of deadline because the term and AAV would have to change as time goes on due to the first year cap hit.

During Nylander’s negotiations he had the leverage because they had tons of cap room and didn’t have to make roster altering moves to accommodate the inflated cap hit.

I trust that account personally. A few hiccups here and there, but overall really good resource for information unlike other "hockey insider" sites and accounts.

I would offer nick leddy, Scott mayfield, Oliver wahlstrom , and a 1st rd pick.

Interesting, still think they get Laine signed to a 2 year 'prove it' bridge deal for money somewhere between what Scheiffele and Wheeler make.

We'll see what happens, Laine's dad was seen in Winnipeg this week so not sure if that's a good or bad sign.

If they don't get him signed to a 2 year bridge or a long term contract they're ****ing idiots! Goal scorers don't fall in your lap every day Chevy!!

The deadline is Dec 31. Absurd to think they wouldn’t negotiate after sept 17. Zero sense to that.

December 1st is the deadline for the NHL. A team imposed deadline makes sense because the first year cap hit would be larger. Nylander's AAV is 6.9m but his first year cap hit was 10.2m because he signed in December. If that were to happen this year with Marner, theyd have accommodate his cap hit plus the extra added. The Jets would face the same issue.

IMO, this is a fair deal for Laine. Leddy and Mayfield could form WPGs 2nd D Pair from the get go behind Morrissey and Byfuglien, while Wahlstrom would give them a Laine replacement (though admittedly, not as good) and a 1st. While for the Islanders, this gives them a goal scorer to play with Barzal, moves out Leddy's 5.5m to soften the blow of Laines deal and not bite as much into next year when Barzal, Pulock and Toews all need new deals and also opens up spots for Aho and Dobson, while keeping Hickey around as the 7th D in case of injury of Dobson not being ready (though I think he is).

Puljujarvi is not even close to top-6 winger at the moment. But Nurse is good starting point.
