trading a teams most valuable player ep 1

Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Team Explanation
this one is tough because you could argue players like Price, Weber, Domi, and Gallagher. However I think KK would have the most trade value because he's a young center with #1 potential.
now I know this trade is going to get bashed from both teams fans but quite honestly, I think it's close to fair. Jets get a young 2c which him and scheifele would be a deadly combo for the next decade. Montreal gets a gamebreaking player who STILL has so much potential to realize. I know there is a lot of Laine haters on here but he has 110 goals in his first three seasons. He is a guy who give him time and I'm confident he will blossom into a BETTER all around player, not a perfect all around player. I know to a lot of habs fans Kotkaniemi is untouchable, however you would still have Domi, Poehling, danault, and Suzuki ready to fill in the hole at Center.

Wow, that's a very good one. As a habs fan, I would not do it but I got to say it's a close call cause Laine is a hell of a shooter. Here's my 2 reasons why :

CAP HIT : I made a lot of projections for 2021-22 and I was pretty surprised to find out we will only have space for one more high-end player (one laine, one werenzki, or one Taylor Hall). Initially I thought we could afford 2 stars (a 1st line winger and a 1st pair LHD), but we can't really. Unless losing all 3 of Danault, Gallagher and Tatar.
All this to say that each penny you can save is worth gold.

Laine is already aiming for a 8,9,10 M$ contract.
KK, on the other hand, has 2 more years at entry level salary. KK is very young and I can see KK reaching 45-50 point this year and 60 points next year. This means that his next contract will be either a shorter transition contract at 4-5 $ M or a longer contract but not higher than 8$ M (since he will not have reach his peak yet).

2) ATTITUDE : This is only an opinion but I did not hear anybody praise Laine for work ethic and he is not described as a had working player. I don't know how hard-working KK is but he really look like he's having fun on the ice.

So that's my reasons, but it's a tough call cause I can really picture cross passes from Drouin or Domi right on Laine 's stick and you can imagine the rest...

Kotkaniemi is untouchable unless another top young center comes in. Center have so much more values, i mean look at laine this year without a real center, he as little to no impact at 5vs5 since he need someone to setup in. So by trading our first center we would be in similar situation. I mean value is there but like i said you centerman is so hard to find, and over the last 2 season kotkaniemi as add a amazing progression so i don’t see montreal trading him. I mean he have a similar parcours that barkov so if he turn out to be as good at barkov we will have a all star centerman.

i'd do it but i'd want Niku over Green .

Tatar-Danault-Gallagher
Laine-Domi-Suzuki
Byron-Poehling-Hudon(Caufield 2020-21)
Lehkonen-Weal-Armia
Thompson

Niku-Weber
Mete-Petry
Chariot-Brook
Folin

Price
Kinkaid

We got a Good list of AHL Call Ups in Primeau , Leiskainen , Fleury ,Evans,Vedejmo and Mccarron fresh off surgery getting his shoulder repaired from a injury in 2014-15 vs TML that didnt heal right .We got Ylonen , Ikonen Norlinder and Olofsson in Europe as well as Harris ,Pitlick and Struble in the AHL with Alex Romanov in his Final year in the KHL and according to his last interview will be a starter for MTL in 2020-21 .

We can afford to give up Kotkanemi if the Upside is a Laine but we need Niku if we're giving up a player with 2 years left on their ELC and isnt artbitration eligible for 3 years so WPG will be looking at a cheap contract and MTL will be looking at a 9-10 million dollar 5-7 year commitment . if we get Niku it solve's our LD issues as even though Niku plays RD he's a left shot and he can easily become Weber's Set up man .
