Anaheim were a rather random choice based on lack of right-handed defensemen and cap space.

Bud, what is that return? You have the cap why not extend him?

Don't see him a top 4 RD at Carolina and too expensive for the last pairing. His points don't make up for his defensive failings. So rather trade him for picks/another player.

Hamilton is far worse defensively than Faulk is. They would be better off extending Faulk and trading Hamilton.

Done. ANA would gladly take Faulk at that price.

Hamilton is far far better offensively though. I'd rather Hamilton than Faulk.

4 pt dif between the 2 last year. And Faulk is PP QB, kills penalties (Hamilton does not), and is better in the locker room. I’d rather have Faulk.

You can get more for Faulk.

Some teams like Edmonton would give you a first round pick, I think, maybe even slightly more

Last season was the first below 40 point season for Hamilton in 5 years, whereas last time Faulk recorded over 40 points was 5 years ago. Imo Hamilton has more offensive potential.

He scores more goals. And yes he is a bit better offensively. Still rather have Faulk. Far more complete and isn’t a douche. On top of which you can bet they will be looking to move Hamilton next offseason anyway as they are not going to risk letting him walk at next seasons end which he is likely to do.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Faulk is far more complete. While Faulk is a little more balanced all-rounder he's still not good enough at either end to justify a spot with a big contract in the current defense (unless Hamilton gets traded ofc). I used to be a big fan of Faulk's but imo he never really became the solid all-rounder that was expected or some think he currently is.

Canes staff clearly don’t agree.

Ice tine

Even strength

Faulk 17:45
Hamilton 17:33

PP

Faulk 2:56
Hamilton 1:51

SH

Faulk 1:43
Hamilton :15

Faulk had a miserable year 2 years ago. He rebounded nicely.

Don't agree with what? That they need to play him more than Hamilton because he's defensively the second best RD on the team? Faulk isn't the defensive rock you try to make him up to be, he's only better (at defending) than Hamilton. And that's exactly why I'd rather move, he's got no distinct strengths; sure he's an all-rounder but rather a jack of all trades yet master of none.

I did not say he is rock, i said he far superior to Hamilton defensively, does not take much to be, while being fairly close offensively, much better in the locker room, and likely cheaper to sign. Much rather have him than Hamilton. Canes would be better off extending Faulk and trading Hamilton for multiple reasons. If you don’t see that so be it. Opinions vary.

Fair enough. But in the end if Hamilton gets traded and Faulk extends I won't be disappointed.
