There might be concerns about Laine but he's still a former #2 overall pick who has surpassed expectations. Bailey is a nice player to move in a deal like this, but its gotta be defense centered. Mayfield is pretty far away from a Trouba replacement so if something like this comes to fruition it would need to involve Dobson or Pulock. Pulock is off limits so essentially, you gotta drop Bailey and the picks from the equation and ask yourself, would I rather have Laine or Dobson for the next five seasons. Tough call there.

There won't be so many bad contracts held by the Isles if Laine isn't signed. IMO paying Laine more than 9m is really iffy, and to give up assets too.
Good points by linehan10 above. Are the Isles better with Bailey and cap space than a high priced Laine?

Add Perrault from Wpg and switch Mayfield for Pulock. Then you have a deal.

Winnipeg declines. For the millionth time islanders fans, I know you wouldn’t do it 1for1, but you don’t get laine without giving back one of Dobson or pulock.

If Dobson is the deal breaker, I’d rather keep him and bet on one of bellows/wahlstrom developing into a 20-25 goal winger in the next 2 years.
