Laine won’t be traded for one solid player and futures. Winnipeg is a contending team and giving up a quality game changer without getting a single player of that caliber in return is counterintuitive. Value wise this likely works but Winnipeg doesn’t get better from this now which is why they don’t do it imo. Also, Laine won’t sign that deal.
And when Hall asks for more money than Panarin (which he honestly deserves) the Devils will have a tough time resigning him. And then this Laine bridge deal expires at the same time as Gusev and Palmieri’s contracts do and the devils have More problems.

I don't think this trade makes sense for both teams. I could see the devils making the playoffs this season, but also one injury to their defense or not getting good goaltending can result in a draft pick in the range of 7-13. Too risky for the devils. It makes more sense to just re-sign hall.

just for the sake of conversation...If I'm the devils, I'm waiting to see how high my team improves in the standings before I go giving away my first round picks for the next few years.
