2C is almost a bigger issue than our D

Description
why do I keep seeing posts where Little is still playing 2c with Laine? They simply can’t play together. Roslovic or copp has to be our 2c. We can’t have another year of Maurice trying to put Laine and Little together over and over.

Honestly I feel like trading Connor or Laine is worst case scenario for us. I think without one of them our top 6 takes a big hit.

I honestly do think that scheifele and wheeler should be split up to start the year. I think this is a reasonable lineup to start.

The first line would provide really good offense, Connor playing with scheifele and Laine allows for good speed and half decent defensive play.

The second line is pure speed, roslovic is a speedy player that would mesh super well with Wheeler and Ehlers as wingers. This line would cruise through all the zones and would be a huge threat in the O-zone.

The 3rd line allows for the young guns to have a veteran mentor in Little, they would be able to grow a lot and little could even mentor Appleton as a C for the future.

You can never go wrong with Copp and Lowry playing together, I think Smith-Pelly would fit in so well with those two and they would be a great checking line and they could score too. I think that Copp could even play 2c but I thought that Roslovic would fit the speed better.

I think the Jets really would love Comrie to stick around 1 more year and take over that backup role next year when Brossoit is gone.

Please leave your projected lineup in the comments, If I see one that I like a lot I will edit this post and switch it to that lineup. Im also open to feedback on signings and all that as well.

I don't think he really has negative value yet, and with $500,000 retained I think his contract is reasonable. He is a very good veteran presence and a young team looking to add that could use a guy like Perreault. He can also play up and down the lineup as he's very versatile.

I think he's worth a 4th with retention

Honestly I feel like you could get a third for Perrault he's a solid player only downside is he gets injured quite a bit

he played 82 games last year so that's pretty good. I just didn't know if he was worth a 3rd, maybe with the retention he is.

Yea this was his first full season since being in the NHL. He's a pretty good player but that contract is pretty heavy he's probably like late third early fourth

yeah, that's why I added $500,000 retention. When he's under 4m a year his contract is more reasonable.

When I was making this team, I simply dropped Connor down to 2nd line LW and moved Laine up to 1st line LW. Laine would play with Scheifele and Wheeler because obviously playing with Little doesn't work.
Line 2 would be Connor - Little - Ehlers. If Little still doesn't mesh with Connor and Ehlers, insert Copp and drop Little down to 3C.

Side note: Smith-Pelly would only cost league minimum so you can save some $$ there.

Overall not bad!

Thanks for the tip on Smith-Pelly. I based his contract on what I saw when he was with Washington two years ago. But if he’s around league minimum that’s such a steal. I also could see those line combos being put together but I just don’t think Little can be a 2c anymore. I’d rather see a young guy make that jump if possible.

Even if the second line is driven by copp, little, roslovic or captain scrotum, this doesn’t fix your 2 nd line center problem. Mason appleton add played center is whole life i
Would give in a try, but the most likely scenario too find that second line center would be a trade. I will come
Up with few scenario let a comment

My issue is more that Little cannot be our 2C, I want a young guy to make that jump and grow to be our 2c. We’re gonna be screwed for a year regardless, we don’t have a 2C and we’re gonna have to let one of our young guys grow to that spot. I personally don’t know what would fit for us as 2c in a trade. The little contract is so bad it’ll hold us back a lot in the next 2 years.

Generally like what you have here. I agree that Scheifele and Wheeler need to be split up but see Wheeler centering a line. With this roster, I would like to see them roll with:

Laine-Scheifele-Roslovic
Connor-Wheeler-Ehlers
Vesalainen-Lowry-Little
Smith-Pelly-Copp-Appleton

I really enjoy the idea of Wheeler at 2c, I just don’t think that it’s a reality, especially with Maurice still in town. I made a post exactly like this a while back and I loved the idea but everyone agrees that this won’t happen with Maurice coaching. I love it because it opens up a top 6 spot for roslovic and instantly fills our 2c need without having to give anything up.

You hope Roslovic can play 2C....If not has to be Wheeler. Sometimes there isn't really isn't much difference between the # 2 and # 3 depending on how balanced the coach wants the lineup to be.
