Description

Gardiner is exposed in expansion draft & his contract ends post NHL’s new TV deal where cap could rise up to $95,000,000 so he could cash in then. We could debate the term and value of this contract for sure despite that new TV deal.

Also, if this dream scenario happens...playoffs for the Rangers?

Rangers biggest issue is a lack of veteran depth, stinks to bump Hajek, Lindgren, and Rykov down the depth chart, but every team should go into a season with the desire and want to win no matter what their roster looks like, and this move helps that case. Signing Gardiner seriously strengthens the Rangers d-core and arguably makes it a playoff worthy d-core(not the team necessarily, but a d-core that could perform in the playoffs.)

No cap, 21 man roster, performance bonuses to pay. Just cap wise, maybe signing Gardiner is not practical. Don't think he would be the difference maker you project.
