why would any team give Winnipeg that type of value when you can offer sheet him to a max offer and give up less then that?

Jets can match the offer, and again, Laine has to sign the offer sheet too.

Remove 2020 1st as it is host in MTL... and the deal is fair IMO
Winnipeg would do it and Montreal should do it

Suzuki value= 1st pick
Lek value= 2nd pick and more
2 x 1st...
So, do you reilly think that the Laine's value is more than 4 1st pick, almost 5???flushed cheeks

Yeah no, Laine is a generational scoring talent and only getting one first from a team would be a shame

His trade value isn't as high as four 1st round picks though. He is one dimensional who spent most of last season on the 3rd line, outside of his goal totals he doesn't have any stats that make him elite. Thinking you're getting multiple elite pieces for him is the wrong way to think.

That's not even off in value....Lehkonen is the only questionable value he has listed.

Is there any player that is worth the kind of massive cap hit it would take to sign him and also give up 4 1st rounders? Does anyone want to pay a flawed player, albeit exceptional goal scorer, a max offer sheet? If its that simple, why hasn't it happened?

just driving my point home. Why give up more value then 4 first round picks and the cap hit to trade for him if he isn't worth the offer sheet

montreal trade is probably close to what winnipeg would want in return. however, if you're trading for him you'd be looking at a long term contract.

don't believe he's getting traded either.

That isn't the right way to look at it though. OS don't make a lot of sense because the cost is insane. Giving up 4 1st round picks is a terrible idea in this day and age, you need to fill depth positions with high skill young players who are cheap, your best odds of making those sort of picks is in the 1st round. So on top of gutting your chances of getting cheap homegrown depth, you also now have to fit a massive cap hit without moving anything out. If you have bad contracts on your squad (most teams do), you have to pay to move those once in a cap bind. So trading for these young stars and signing them after makes a lot more sense.

Cause no one has cap space to make an offersheet, no one has cap space to take cap dumps and some teams have big rfa's to sign next season so adding at least $7 million now might not seem worth it to teams who have RFA'S to sign next summer.
