why trade a 50 goal scorer for a potential 50 goal scorer who is wildly inconsistent? and then also pay him more than the actual 50 goal scorer

Oilers automatically lose this deal because Leon can play centre extremely effectively, plus, he has great chemistry with the Oilers' best player. Laine CANNOT play center and he would have to build up that chemistry, which in itself takes time. So even if Laine comes over and scored 40 goals over 5 seasons, assuming Draisaitl keeps up a point-per-game pace over said 5 years, Oilers still lose the deal. Draisaitl is a faster player, better two-way player as well and significantly more dynamic. No way this deal ever happens unless Jets throw an additional asset in, which I doubt they would do.

I mean, Laine is 2.5 years younger, and should be able to get to 50 a year, if he plays steadily with McDavid, I would hope? WPG does it to upgrade at 1C.

Drai would be 2c on Winnipeg, I don't see a reason to break up the duo of McDavid/Drai, its already a 200+ point combinaiton
