Yay! Yet another bottom 6 player that's gonna slot right next to Connor McDavid at some point this season

Holland is obviously familiar with the player having drafted him. A good signing as a cheap 3/4th line center for the Oil.
Will Vanek be the next ex Red Wing to sign in Edmonton?

It's hard to argue w/ the dollar amount, but you have to wonder if he's really even a competent 4th liner these days. He showed signs of life for a while in PIT, but ultimately flamed out. Now he'll be surrounded with a much less offensive group. I think his tenure in EDM will be a short one.

Here's why the Oilers will score around 80 goals this season:

McDavid scores 40
Draisaitl scores 40

That's 80 total goals for the Oilers. tears of joy

Makes sense. Good aav and another depth option down the middle. I dont think he'll become the full season 3rd line center but hopefully will provide general bottom 6 and pk duties for 40-60 games. Not hard to trade him though if he doesnt find a way to out compete some of the younger options such as Gamberdella, Mcleod, Haas or Marody. But they all provide a different way to play the game too. Really hard to picture how the roster will come together right now as many different combos can be made with the players available. I guess that's better than going into the season with a bunch of guaranteed spots for bums that were part of a losing season last year.

Say what you want about all the 4th liners in Edmonton for Training Camp, it's far better than what they had last year.

1. The bottom 6 set an NHL record for suck, so there will be players who are far better this year

2. There are enough vets, Euros, young AHLers, rookies, etc that will be pushing for places in the line-up and that competition is a great thing for this team (for a change)

3. There are tons of deals, like Sheahan, that can be easily buried in the AHL and with all the 1-year deals sets up the roster for a good reset next year

Where else have I heard the "familiar with the player having drafted him"? Hmmm...
