Hyman is coming off a 20 goal season and everyone wants to trade him to save a million. Why not trade something that is a surplus like Kapanen and make an upgrade somewhere else with the move?

Kapanen also scored 20 goals last year and is improving. I like Hyman but he's not really a 20 goal scorer when 6 of them are empty-netters

With Cody Ceci on your top pairing, IF you make the playoffs, it'll be another one-and-done post season.

Perhaps but I rather take a chance on an underperforming D from a bad team (Ceci) over an underperforming D from a good one (Zaitsev) with more term.

Kapanen is good but I am not sure he is what TO needs. He's just another perimeter shooting skill guy who doesn't go to the net. TO needs guys who can get in front and give Matthews, and Tavares a net front presence. Kapanen isn't that player and I don't see him ever wanting to be that. I'd trade him while his value is high and replace him with Moore or Bracco.

Bracco needs more time develop. He was given extremely sheltered minutes last year with the Marlies. Until he can learn to defend half decently he is AHL-bound.

Moore at this stage isn't ready to handle a top 6 role. He looks great when he's beating up on lesser competition (4th line vs 4th line) but he still needs to grow too before you can contemplate sliding him into the top 6

There are two types of fans on here.

Ones who think every prospect is going to be a star right after they are drafted

or

Ones who think all young players need to be in the minors until they are 25 to develop.

Bracco would without a doubt make a lot of teams in the NHL, the only reason he likely is going to be in the AHL again this fall is because there are too many RW ahead of him in TO. He isn't a 4th line grinder so he has almost no chance of making the Leafs.

Bracco didn't get any defensive zone starts in the AHL. if the play left the O-zone he would change. That's how he was deployed last season and it worked really well for the Marlies but there's no way he's ready for the NHL with that

Ceci has played more post season games with OTT than Zaitsev saw in TOR and the trade was not 1-for-1, OTT wanted C. Brown, who we both know deserved more ice time than he was getting. But my point ... is get Ceci off your top line or you'll get burned.

I agree Brown deserved more ice time but Toronto had to move him. The deal basically worked out to be Zaitsev for Ceci, Brown for a 3rd and an AHL player swap. Toronto took Harpur so Scrooge McNelnyk can save some cash and green light it

True that. And Brown got pushed out of your top 6 as better players came in. The diminished ice time and quality of line mates hurt his stats but I think he could hit a 40 points season in OTT if he shows up hungry for a top 6 spots. Time will tell. UGH... Melnyk....

Brown will get 20 goals this season with Ottawa if he gets top 6 minutes. His +/- will be terrible but that's just part of the fun of playing on Ottawa right now
