Faulk is terrible and Oshie is still solid, I don't think this would be a good trade for the Caps.

Necas is in that deal though. Washington would be pretty dumb to turn that down, especially given how bad Oshie's cap will be in the final three years.

Yeah this is true, but for a team in "win now" mode I'm not too sure. Depends on if they could flip Faulk for a 2RW.

I'm confused. Faulk isn't a 2RW? smile

Nah. I think Panik, on a line with Backstrom, could turn out to be the steal of the summer, though. In 16-17, with Chicago, Panik got 22g, 22a, 44p. At 28, he should still have that skill. That's a big drop-off from Oshie, but if you add a little more puck movement to an already solid two-way blue line, the team should keep on scoring some goals, overall?

Not sure this is the kind of offer that would be able to convince Waddell to part with Necas, and it also doesn't solve their cap issues; they are currently 1.5M over the cap and this trade would add about 1.3M on their end leaving them at 2.8M over the cap. Also, seconding what @JayBeagleFanAccount said in their first comment: Oshie is infinitely more valuable to the Caps in the near future than Faulk would be, simply by virtue of Oshie being a great play driver and Faulk being a mediocre/bad rental. There are other ways for GMBM to get under the upper limit, so this is a needless risk for the Caps to take in what could be Backstrom and Holtby's last year as Caps.

I think both teams say no to this. The Caps aren't in a position to move a top six forward for a pending UFA defenseman, even if it means getting a top prospect in Necas. Carolina doesn't want that Oshie money on the books, especially at the cost of Necas. Value wise, it favors the Caps. But it doesn't make a lot of sense for either team

Meaning trade for Faulk then trade Faulk for a second line right winger

Faulk vastly outvalues Djoos

Vastly? Hmmm... Faulk has a ton more experience and power play points, but Djoos came back from a broken leg, started out slow, and still finished on pace for 18 even strength points. Faulk got 25, at four times the cap hit. They might already be even, on skill. Some teams are short on right shots and would value Faulk more, but each of these teams has enough guys to play each side. Re-signing Djoos next summer as an RFA on a long term deal at 4M is probably a little bit better, long term, than watching Faulk walk as a UFA? Some Hurricanes fan offered Fleury for Djoos on here this summer, so I do think he could be someone who might fit in Carolina? Faulk might be worth a 2nd or a 3rd more than Djoos, but if it's a one for one, Carolina takes it today, because they need the cap space, and DJoos might do just as well, at evens, this year.

Canes Necas vastly outvalues Oshie

Maybe two summers ago. Necas was picked 12th overall in 2017. He's down to 18th in NHL points among his draft class, so his value is falling a little bit (http://www.nhl.com/stats/player?aggregate=1&reportType=season&seasonFrom=20172018&seasonTo=20182019&gameType=2&draftYear=2017&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=points,goals,assists). Not a great sign. Still a top prospect. But he's no Casey Mittelstadt.

Oshie has at least 50 points in six of the last eight seasons. He was on pace for 50+ in all eight. He has highs of sixty points and 33 goals. His 33 goal season was in 2016-17. Last year he was on pace for another 30 goal season, which would have tied Sebastian Aho for the Hurricanes' lead, but the 25 he got in 69 games would have been second on Carolina, just like it was second on Washington. He's not a guy you normally see a playoff team consider trading. If he does get traded, he's gonna fetch a mid-first round pick and an A prospect.

Necas is an A+ prospect still. But he's not as valuable, today, as T. J. Oshie. The difference might be only a 2nd or a 3rd, so it evens out.

Sure. Doesn't everybody? But let's be realistic.
