Only one of those that is really unique is San Jose (and maybe Arizona).

Boston in a WC is quite a common pick.

How is Pittsburgh missing unique?

The majority of the people i've seen make predictions have Pittsburgh missing the playoffs.

A recent CF poll had 11 votes for the Penguins not making the playoffs and 7 for them making it.

These are the regular season predictions that most media members will probably make given that they usually pick about 14-15 teams who made the playoffs the previous season, with 1-2 exceptions:

Atlantic:

1. TBL
2. TOR
3. BOS
4. FLA
5. MTL
6. BUF
7. DET
8. OTT

Metro:

1. WASH
2. PIT
3. CAR
4. NYI
5. NJD
6. PHI
7. NYR
8. CBJ

Central:

1. STL
2. DAL
3. NSH
4. WPG
5. COL
6. CHI
7. MIN

Pacific:

1. VGK
2. SJS
3. CGY
4. ARI
5. VAN
6. EDM
7. ANA
8. LAK

They don't get extra credit for picking long shots or dark horses like us fans do. I can pretty much guarantee that everyone from NHL.com and Sportsnet will have PIT, WPG, NSH, and CGY in the playoffs. I'll say right now that no less than 2 of these 4 teams miss, and possibly 3.

ARI seems to be a popular choice to replace WPG in the West. In the East, I think Florida, the Devils or the Rangers are popular choices to replace Columbus and PIT.

It kinda seems like the majority of people are picking each of these teams to make the playoffs: Nashville, Colorado, St. Louis, Dallas, Winnipeg, San Jose, Calgary, Vegas, and Arizona. Yes, that's 9 teams, but some people have Vegas missing, some people say Winnipeg misses, some say Arizona misses, and some say teams like San Jose or Nashville or whomever. For me it's Winnipeg or Vegas who falls out.

These are excellent predictions for the East. I would change out either NYR or PHI for the Islanders though. But, I could see it your way too. Otherwise, we're on the same page. In the West, I think NSH, WPG, and CGY are all pretty strong teams, but I see at least one, if not 2 of them missing. I think the Sharks are top 3 in the Pacific and I think Chicago will def. be there right down to the final game.

Every year is. That's what's so great about hockey.

Try next 2-3 yrs?
I think Buffalo/NJD/Rangers/Van/Ari will be the next teams to get in. In Atlantic one of big 3 this year will drop off in 2yrs.
