Rantanen shouldnt be making more than 6

Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 7, 2019
Published: Sep. 7, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Since Mackinnon is making just over 6 million and he's better than Rantanen, Rantanen shouldn't make anything more. Why? Because apparently RFA negotiations revolve around the teams best player. Oh wait, I forgot, it only applies when it's a Leaf RFA and the player is making over 11 million

He might get 6. Big might. But it surely won't be for 8 years.

Sure but let put the MacKinnon contract in perspective.

When Nathan signed his deal, he was off 2 seasons where he was ok (38 pts in 14-15 and 52 pts in 15-16) and after that he became reaaaally good. And it was before all those contracts blew out of propotion.

So yeah, 6m for a bridge contract seems ok to me, but no way that he sign this kind of deal for 8 years

Well if we are being rational, If Rantanen signed at the same cap% as MacKinnon signed for, his cap hit would be just over $7mil AAV. which on a bridge deal isn't entirely unreasonable. I'll add that when MacKinnon signed his deal, he was coming off back to back 50 pts seasons. not exactly something that would give a contract that a 94pts season would give, don't you think?...

As for your little rant in your explanation section. I find it funny that I don't see a large portion of COL fans openly bashing Rantanen for holding out for a better deal. same goes for TB fans with Point, CGY with Tkachuck, etc. Where conversely a large portion TOR fans are consistently calling out Marner, his dad, his agent, pieces of $h!t because holding out is hurting your poor little fan bases feelings.

Wrong. I've seen plenty of Winnipeg fans calling out Laine, but I guess when it's not the Leafs it's ok

Haha leaf fans getting feelings hurt post...

I personally dont think any of this years rfas should be making more than 7 million, problem is guys like Kevin Lowe, Peter chirelli, Kyle dubas, buffalo gm, kinda screwed it up for everyone... I'd be happy with 8+ if it's on an 8 years deal, but less than 7 for a 2-3 year deal

I haven't. Haven't seen a single WIN fan criticize him, his agent , or his family.... I just see a lot of other teams fan bases try and trade for him and talk how one dimensional he his, with basically every WIN fan defending him saying he's not for sale and are trying to sign him.

Trying to answer my own initial comment though... Leaf fans going for a "us against the world" mentality...completely understandable, considering the media won't shut up about Marner (because it gets them clicks). Add the fact that other fan bases are also sick of hearing about it is probably the root cause for why they are giving leaf fans a hard time (which is also understandable). But that's just not the case for other teams, which is probably why we don't see any backlash from their respective fanbases.
