Marner 3 Year Deal 2nd Year

Created by: Siiroth
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 7, 2019
Published: Sep. 7, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Some worrying rumours of the cap not going up much next year but for this I assumed that it'll be 83.5 since that'll be the same 2 mill increase as last year.

This Marner contract is based on the rumour of 3 years, 8.5 mill (yikes) but I think this would be a pretty good team for next season with it.

I wanted a good RHD replacement for Ceci to play with Reilly so I did the overdone Pesce deal. Probably an overpay on the Leafs side but it'll take a lot for CAR to give up that great contract.

With the Gardiner signing they have so many great D-men and I think they'd like another forward instead of all those D-men. Johnnson scored 20 goals and is only signed for 3.4 mill for another 3 seasons and Dermott can be a decent replacement D to play less minutes. The 1st could be changed to a 2nd with more prospects thrown in or something but with this roster I'm hoping it's 31st overall.

Kappy doesn't seem to wanna play the left side but he's been shown to be able to do so in the past so he's gonna be told to in this situation.

Mikheyev walks in this case too, we just don't have the space to resign him if he does well and if he doesn't then we shouldn't be resigning him anyway lol.

Barrie reportedly wants 8x8 but we all know that's insane so 7x8 is the contract here. Muzzin will be 30 and probably will want a long-term deal because of that. He took a discount in LA and will probably take a little less here too (will have to if he wants an 8 year term). 5.25 is the number I gave over 8 years.

4th line players and scratches can be changed, they shouldn't be playing many minutes through the season so I don't really care. I'm also assuming league minimum increases to 750k.

You gave up way too much for Pesce. Subtract the 1st rounder and its a good deal.

It will be interesting would the UFA will get in summer of 2020. Agree with you the cap and isn't going up much and if the RFAs start getting bigger money, there will less money for the UFAs.
Barrie still might be big money but guys like Muzzin, might be the like Gardiner...struggling to get a contract as good as their last one. Eight years of Muzzin look like at four years too many.

WHAT!!! if you want Pesce you have to include Nylander and Marner and 1st Rd pick.

Typical response some give concerning the future H.O.F'er and Norris Trophy winning Pesce.

*sarcasm* alert

Never sign a Dman in his late 20's to a 8 year deal. Doughty is starting year 1 of his 8 year deal and fans and media are already ****ing amount it.

I agree, I wouldn't give him more than 5 years, which takes him to 33.

Problem is the cap hit will go up for less years as he'll probably want long term security
