So you traded a 4th for oleksiak who has proceeded to do absolutely nothing for you, then you think he can get a third+...?

It depends on the need of the team. PIT needed to move Oleksiak for something, otherwise they would've most likely lost him to waivers. They didn't get full value.

Oleksiak is decent physical and relatively cheap 3rd pair d-man. I'm positive he could reach that sort of value if the team is right.

I'm trying to remember who we had at the time, but I don't remember bringing in a d man that would have caused him to be put on waivers, that trade was well before the Guddy trade, probably when Riikola was still in the NHL and would have been sent down before him

The Sabres already have more defenders than they need at NHL level and will no doubt try to shed some to allow several prospects (Borgen, who plays a physical style; Bryson; and Laaksonen on the way) to get promoted in next 2 years. They have zero need for Oleksiak - and I also don't think he's capable of playing the up-tempo, speed transition game that all of Botterill's acquisitions have been known for.

Huh. I might be wrong then. I believe you had acquired Pettersson quite shortly before/after that move, making him expendable.

That's true, I didn't take account that one. Just figured you might be out of D after that Hunwick situation.

I think the Jets trade is fair. Good take.
