Well there’s that plus the leafs would rather obtain a long term rhd.

Clearly you didn't read the description, during the 2015 Draft the Leafs had Hanifin rated as the best Dman option and had serious thoughts of selecting him.

We know. We wouldn't make this trade now though. In fact Hanafin likely falls by as much as 10 spots in any re-draft.

That guy the Devils drafted Zacha 6th Overall wouldn't even get selected in the 1st Rd in a re-draft.

Nope, but looking at that Draft, why did the Oilers traded their 1st (16th-Barzal)and 2nd (33th) for G. Reinhart. That's the worst trade made this decade.

You should look at the 2003 draft then smile
And yeah that was an awful trade even at the time.

Besides McDavid is there a better player than Mitch from that Draft. Eichel? Rantanen?

I think you gotta say Eichel is better, he's kinda doing it on his own. Marner and Rantanen are on par. Hard to say who gets an edge there really.

See I actually think Rantanen is more a product of MacKinnon than most realise. Not saying he is bad or anything, just not as good as mitch (even though he likely gets paid to be).
I'd go:
McDavid
Eichel
Marner-Aho
Warenski
Barzal
Rantanen
Provorov
Connor
Boeser

or something like that anyway. I may be forgetting someone.

Meier, Konecny (a Leaf draft pick Dubas traded down to get two 2nd Rd picks, Bracco and Dermott.)

And D. Strome, who was also high on the Leafs list, taken before Mitch.

Hard to say really. I mean, in a few years I think we look back at that class and kinda shake our heads in disbelief. They all have so much upside, and lots can change in short order.

You could be right about Rantanen. For my money MacKinnon could challenge McDavid soon. The guy is a beast, and just getting better. Everyone has a different development arc. And Nate has all the tools to challenge for the best in the world.

But some of that could also be attributed to how Rantanen compliments his game. It's that same silly argument about who carries who between Marner and JT. Doesn't matter to me. When you find a combo that works, dont mess with it, and enjoy the ride.

It's why Willy and AM should be stapled together, imo.

Those guys are in a 2nd tier below these guys (although Boeser and Connor might be scraping the top of said tier).
And Dermott is 100% worth it and if Bracco pans out (2nd in AHL scoring at 21 y/o) he easily makes the difference.

I am. The man is awesome.

We'll convene on this date in 3 years. And I'm putting 3 beers down on my take. How we meet to decide who pays for who's beer will also be determined in 3 years. Til then.. wink

Yea, it was Babcock who demanded Kessel to be traded, rather than, you know do his job and coach him to be a better player.
