An outside look of OTT line-up - am I far off

Created by: Sportnilsson

Description
Capitals is my team, but what fun is it to be interested in the league if you don't have a decent idea of your opponents?

This is my outside look for the Senators line-up. Is it reasonable or do you - fans of the team - see other likely line combinations or pairings at defense? Who's got that special chemistry with another players etc.

I figure Batherson will push himself into a full-time job after having a good look last season.

The line-up is "deep" at center, with basically four middle-six centers. No real No 1 center, but anyone of the ones listed would also feel overqualified as 4C.

At the blueline, both Wolanin and Lajoie can be sent to AHL without going through waivers. Guess it could be Jaros instead, but I have a default thought for each pairing having a left-handed and a right-handed D-man.

White is the de facto number 1, though Brown could push for that spot, even if it means pushing AA or JGP to the wing or even trade Pageau or Tierney before opening night, though teams very rarely make those deals this early on.

Wolanin is 24 years old. He should have played in the NHL last year over Lajoie, there's not a chance he isnt in Ottawa this year. He's done nothing but show he's an NHL player since he debuted in 17-18. Brannstrom is sick, but he wasn't dominant in the AHL the way Wolanin was, and he could benefit from some more seasoning in Belleville.

I see Boedker and Ennis being scratched more over the season than L. Brown and Veronneau. I of course have my own 'favourite' lines that I think would mesh well together but with the state of the roster this is as good a guess as any except for, like the comment above, White is almost 100% the 1C and Wolanin is most definitely in the NHL.

Brannstrom likely gets the Chabot and Karlsson treatment of spending a dozen or so games in Belleville before (if he's playing well) being called up to likely play in the Top4 or take Hainsey's spot on the bottom pairing

Two possibles with JG Pageau: if you get a contract extension in place then OTT can play him anywhere in the line up they want. If they can't get a deal in place then they're better off playing him with some talented guys to pad his stats and make him more valuable at the trade deadline when they move him. And he's good enough to handle the second line - has probably been training is butt off this summer!

I know that Batherson seems like a given but right now it's looking like Abramov is the winger to beat. So hard to tell at the rookie tournament who is actually NHL ready though. Preseason will tell us much more.
